Sony’s April 2025 PS5 price increase took effect on April 14, but the affected models varied by market: Europe and the U.K. saw a higher price for the Digital Edition, while Australia and New Zealand received new recommended prices for both console editions. Sony later announced another round of global price increases, effective April 2, 2026. Its March 2026 announcement lists updated figures for Europe and the U.K., but not Australia or New Zealand, so the 2025 prices for those countries should not be treated as current.
What changed in Sony’s April 2025 PS5 price announcement?
Sony announced revised recommended retail prices (RRPs) effective April 14, 2025. The changes did not apply uniformly across markets: in Europe and the U.K., Sony raised the Digital Edition RRP and said the standard PS5 with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive was unchanged. In Australia and New Zealand, Sony listed new RRPs for both the disc-drive PS5 and the Digital Edition. Sony said PS5 Pro RRPs were unchanged in that announcement. Sony’s April 2025 announcement gives the full market-by-market details.

Why did Sony say it was raising prices?
For the 2025 increase, Isabelle Tomatis, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s vice president of global marketing, cited “a challenging economic environment, including high inflation and fluctuating exchange rates.” In its 2026 announcement, Tomatis referred to “continued pressures in the global economic landscape.” These are Sony’s stated explanations; the announcements do not quantify the effect of any one factor on the price changes.
