Sony’s 2026 Lunar New Year PlayStation Plus promotion ended on February 26, 2026, so its sale prices are no longer available. During the offer, US annual Extra and Premium memberships were both reported at $99.99, while Sony’s announcement specified discounts of 25% for Extra and 35% for Premium, with different eligibility for new members and existing subscribers.
What the Lunar New Year offer included
Sony’s Japanese PlayStation Blog announced a promotion running from February 13 through February 26, 2026. New subscribers could get 25% off a 12-month Extra membership or 35% off a 12-month Premium membership. Existing Essential or Extra members could get 35% off an upgrade to Premium, with the discount applied to the remaining subscription period. Sony’s announcement also noted that catalog availability depends on the plan, timing, and country or region.

For the US, Notebookcheck reported that annual Extra fell from $134.99 to $99.99 and annual Premium from $159.99 to $99.99 during the promotion. These are reported US prices, not global prices; Sony’s cited announcement is for Japan and does not establish worldwide pricing or eligibility. Notebookcheck’s February 2026 report covered the US amounts.
Can you still get the sale price?
No. The promotion ended February 26, 2026. Readers should not assume the $99.99 prices or the upgrade discount remain available; any later offer would have its own dates and terms.

How Extra and Premium differ
Sony’s current US plan page lists annual memberships at $79.99 for Essential, $134.99 for Extra, and $159.99 for Premium. Those are current US prices displayed on the page, not prices for every region. Sony’s US PlayStation Plus page describes the current plan benefits:
| Plan | Relevant benefits | Current US annual price shown by Sony |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | Online multiplayer and monthly games, among other benefits | $79.99 |
| Extra | Essential benefits, plus the Game Catalog and Ubisoft+ Classics | $134.99 |
| Premium | Extra benefits, plus the Classics Catalog, game trials, and cloud streaming | $159.99 |
Catalogs and features can vary by plan and region and can change over time. Sony’s plan page is the best place to check what is currently offered for a particular account and location. Cloud streaming also depends on country availability and meeting Sony’s connection requirements; see Sony’s cloud-streaming support information.

Which tier would have made more sense?
The promotion made US annual Extra and Premium the same reported price, but the better fit depended on the benefits a subscriber would use and the terms shown to that account.
- Choose Extra for the Game Catalog: it adds access to that catalog and Ubisoft+ Classics over Essential.
- Consider Premium for its additional features: the relevant extras include the Classics Catalog, game trials, and cloud streaming where available.
- For an upgrade, check remaining time: Sony said the Premium upgrade discount for eligible Essential or Extra members applied to the remaining subscription period.
- Check region and account terms: the US dollar offer does not establish prices or eligibility elsewhere, and Sony says catalog availability varies.
Renewal terms to check before subscribing
PlayStation Plus renews automatically unless canceled. Sony says renewal is charged at the then-current PlayStation Store price, so check the price and renewal details presented to your account before starting or changing a membership. A sale price should not be treated as the ongoing renewal price.
