The estimate was not a sales total announced or confirmed by Sony, and it is not a final lifetime figure.
How many copies did Concord sell?
Carless estimated that Concord had sold approximately 10,000 units on Steam and 15,000 on PlayStation by the end of August 2024, for roughly 25,000 across the two platforms. GameSpot reported the estimate on September 3, 2024. It describes early sales, not a verified total for the game’s lifetime. GameSpot’s report does not present the estimate as an official Sony figure.

Concord released on PS5 and PC in August 2024. Sources describe the date differently: GameSpot’s listing gives August 20 as the first release date, while The Guardian describes the launch as August 23. Because those accounts use different release and launch framing, neither date changes what the sales estimate measures: units Carless estimated by the end of August. The Guardian’s report covers the shutdown announcement.
Did Concord really sell only 25,000 copies?
That number should be read as an analyst estimate, not a confirmed count. Sony’s September 3 announcement about Concord did not confirm sales figures, and Carless’s estimate came before Sony announced that sales would stop and the game would be taken offline. The available figure therefore does not establish how many copies ultimately sold or how many players tried the game through other means.

Why did Sony shut down Concord?
Sony did not publish a detailed causal postmortem in its shutdown announcement. Ryan Ellis, game director at Firewalk Studios, said that “other aspects of the game and our initial launch didn’t land the way we’d intended.” That is Sony’s stated explanation, not a detailed account of which factors drove the decision. Sony’s September 3, 2024 announcement said the company would explore options for the game.
Analysts quoted by GameSpot discussed possible contributors, including the game’s differentiation in a crowded shooter market, marketing and its $40 launch price. Midia Research analyst Rhys Elliott argued that Concord should have launched free-to-play or through PlayStation Plus, saying, “The damage might have already been done. First impressions matter.” These are attributed opinions about the launch, not confirmed findings from Sony. GameSpot’s report also describes those analysts’ commentary.

Can you still play Concord on PS5?
No. Sony said Concord sales would cease immediately and that the game would go offline beginning September 6, 2024. Because the online game was taken offline, owning a PS5 copy does not make it playable as a functioning online service.
Sony said it would offer full refunds to people who bought the game for PS5 or PC. For physical copies purchased from other retailers, the company directed customers to follow the retailer’s refund process. Sony’s announcement provides the original refund and shutdown details.

Are Concord PS5 discs valuable?
A physical copy may interest collectors, but past resale data is not a guide to its current value. Ars Technica reviewed nearly 300 completed eBay listings from September 3–8, 2024, and reported a $100 median for new PS5 copies after the shutdown announcement. That is a historical median for that specific window, not a current price estimate; asking prices and later sales may differ. Ars Technica’s analysis also noted uncertainty about how long the collector-market effect would last.
For any copy, condition matters to collectors: sealed and opened discs are not equivalent. But a disc’s collectibility is separate from the ability to play Concord online, which ended when the game went offline.
