Sony’s official PlayStation monitor is real—but its 240Hz mode is for PC, not PS5

Yes—Sony Interactive Entertainment officially made it. The 27” Gaming Monitor with DualSense® Charging Hook is a PlayStation-branded 27-inch QHD IPS display with a built-in hook that stores and charges a DualSense or DualSense Edge controller. Its headline 240Hz refresh rate applies to compatible PCs and Macs; PS5 and PS5 Pro support up to 120Hz on this monitor.

The monitor has an announced U.S. RRP of $349.99. Sony announced U.S. preorders from June 5, 2026, with launch scheduled for August 27, 2026. The product page is available through PlayStation Direct.

This is a real PlayStation product—not an INZONE rumor

The monitor is not a mock-up, third-party accessory, or modified Sony INZONE display. Sony Interactive Entertainment announced it through official PlayStation channels and sells it under the PlayStation brand.

That makes it distinct from Sony’s INZONE monitors, which are Sony Electronics products designed to work with PlayStation consoles. This display is explicitly presented as a PlayStation-branded desktop gaming monitor, complete with a controller-charging feature built into its design. Sony’s original announcement is on the PlayStation Blog.

240Hz does not mean 240Hz on PS5

This is the crucial qualification behind the headline. The monitor can reach 240Hz, but PS5 and PS5 Pro output up to 120Hz. The 240Hz maximum is intended for compatible PC and Mac devices.

Connecting a PS5 to a 240Hz monitor cannot make the console render games at 240Hz. Actual refresh rate also depends on the game, console output settings, connected hardware, and supported display modes.

  • 【WIDEN YOUR PERSPECTIVE】Our sleek minimal bezel design ensures undivided attention. The nearly bezel-free display seamlessly connects in a dual monitor arrangement, delivering an unobstructed view that lets you focus on more at once, completely distraction-free.

How the DualSense charging hook works

The retractable hook is integrated into the monitor and sits below the screen. It is designed to hold and charge either a standard DualSense wireless controller or a DualSense Edge wireless controller.

Sony says the controller can remain charged even when the monitor is not in use. This is a desk-integration feature rather than a new charging standard, and it should not be confused with the separate DualSense Charging Station.

The controller is not included with the monitor. It is an additional purchase, as Sony states on the product page. Owners who already have a charging dock—or who need to charge multiple controllers—may get less value from the built-in hook.

  • VRR support through HDMI.
  • HDR support.
  • Auto HDR Tone Mapping during setup with PS5 and PS5 Pro.
  • HDMI 2.1 connectivity.

Auto HDR Tone Mapping is intended to simplify HDR configuration by automatically adjusting display settings during console setup. It does not guarantee excellent HDR in every game. HDR quality still depends on the game, the panel, and the monitor’s capabilities.

Its native resolution is 2560×1440, so it is not a 4K monitor. Not every game will necessarily render at native QHD; the actual output depends on the console, game, and selected display mode.

PC and Mac use

PC gamers are the audience that can make genuine use of the 240Hz specification. A compatible computer, graphics hardware, game, cable, and output setting are all required to reach that rate.

The monitor supports 2560×1440 at 240Hz over DisplayPort 1.4 with DSC. Its HDMI 2.1 inputs also support QHD at 240Hz with FRL and VRR, according to Sony’s specifications. In practice, the achievable mode remains dependent on the connected device and configuration.

Ports and connectivity

  • Two HDMI 2.1 inputs
  • One DisplayPort 1.4 input
  • Two USB-A downstream ports
  • One USB-C downstream port
  • One USB-B upstream port
  • 3.5mm headphone output
  • Built-in stereo speakers
  • PlayStation Link adapter compatibility

The USB-A and USB-C ports function as a hub, not as independent console expansion ports. A compatible device must be connected through the USB-B upstream port for the hub to operate.

Sony also says that USB storage formatted for PS5 must be connected directly to the console rather than routed through the monitor’s USB ports. HDMI and DisplayPort cables are not included.

IPS, QHD, and HDR: what kind of display is this?

The 27-inch QHD IPS format is a sensible middle ground for a desktop gaming setup. QHD is sharper than 1080p at this size, while the fast refresh rate benefits compatible PC games and the 120Hz ceiling suits current PlayStation console output.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

However, this is not a premium image-quality display. IPS panels do not provide the pixel-level contrast and deep blacks associated with OLED. The stated 350 cd/m² brightness also means it should not be treated as an ultra-bright HDR reference monitor. It supports HDR and Auto HDR Tone Mapping, but those features do not make it equivalent to a high-end OLED or local-dimming display.

Price, preorder, and launch timing

According to Sony’s August 18, 2026 announcement:

  • U.S. RRP: $349.99
  • Japan RRP: ¥49,980, including tax
  • U.S. preorders began: June 5, 2026
  • Announced U.S. and Japan launch: August 27, 2026
  • U.S. preorder channels: PlayStation Direct, Best Buy, and participating retailers

The announcement and official buying page establish the RRP and scheduled launch date; retailer stock and shipping timing can vary. Sony’s pricing and launch announcement is available on the PlayStation Blog.

Who should buy it?

It makes sense for

  • PS5 or PS5 Pro owners building a dedicated desk setup.
  • Players in dorm rooms, bedrooms, home offices, or shared living spaces where a television is impractical.
  • People who switch between a PlayStation console and a high-refresh-rate gaming PC.
  • PlayStation fans who value matching hardware and integrated controller storage.
  • Buyers who want QHD, HDMI 2.1, VRR, speakers, and a height-adjustable stand in one product.

It is less compelling for

  • PS5-only buyers who prioritize 4K sharpness, OLED contrast, or stronger HDR.
  • PC gamers seeking the cheapest possible 240Hz monitor.
  • Anyone expecting 240Hz gameplay from a PS5 or PS5 Pro.
  • Owners of a good 1440p 120Hz monitor and a separate DualSense charging dock.
  • Users who do not need PlayStation branding or the integrated charging hook.

How to judge the value

The monitor’s value depends more on its integration than on a single headline specification. A cheaper 1440p/120Hz monitor paired with a separate charging dock may be the better route for a PS5-only buyer. A 4K/120Hz display is more appropriate for someone who wants maximum console image sharpness, while a QHD OLED high-refresh display is aimed at PC users who prioritize contrast and response characteristics.

Sony’s INZONE range is another category to consider if you want Sony display hardware without this monitor’s integrated PlayStation charging hook. Current prices, stock, and model comparisons vary and are separate from the monitor’s official announcement.

Bottom line

Sony really did make an official PlayStation monitor with a built-in DualSense charging hook. It is a 27-inch QHD IPS display with HDR, VRR, HDMI 2.1, and a 240Hz maximum for compatible PC and Mac systems. For PS5 and PS5 Pro, the meaningful ceiling is up to 120Hz—not 240Hz.

At $349.99, it is best understood as a convenient mixed-platform desk monitor with PlayStation integration, not as a 4K OLED upgrade or a way to unlock 240Hz console gaming.
