Two walkthroughs published in 2025 list 103 readables in South of Midnight. To find one you missed, check its name in the in-game Readables collection, use chapter replay to return to the right area, then follow the matching landmark below. Readables include environmental drawings and markings as well as notes, so inspect surfaces and side paths—not just loose pages.
What counts as a readable?
Readables are collectible lore and world-building items. They can be notes or letters, but also written entries, glyph-like markings, and drawings on walls or other surfaces. A location guide may therefore direct you to furniture, crates, a cave wall, or environmental art rather than a page on the ground.
How many readables are there?
Camzillasmom and The Filibuster Blog each reported a total of 103 readables in guides published on 13 April 2025. That is a count reported by two independent guides, not an official developer-published statistic. The guides broadly agree on chapter locations, but some item labels and sequence numbers differ; use the name shown in your in-game collection to identify what you need.
How to find a missing readable
- Check the in-game Readables collection. Note the missing collectible’s displayed name instead of relying only on its sequence number.
- Return through chapter replay. The Filibuster Blog describes the menu route as Load Game > Chapter Replay; chapters unlock sequentially as the story progresses.
- Use the chapter landmarks below. Follow the location associated with the missing name, and inspect the nearby surfaces and objects.
- Confirm the entry in the collection. If a guide’s numbering or wording does not match, trust the in-game name and check the alternate landmarks for that chapter.
The source describing chapter replay does not establish whether replay preserves every collection state in every game version, so do not assume a particular save-state outcome.

Readable locations by chapter

Chapter 7
The guide lists 15 entries across crates, a cave, beehives, a hollow tree, a bar, houses, a workshop, and the sawmill. Because the guides contain mismatched sequence and name wording for this chapter, confirm the collectible name in your collection and match it to a landmark rather than following an ordinal alone.
Chapter 8
Four Delta-346 entries are associated with tree stumps, an area beyond a wind tunnel, a stump on a hill, and a rock reached after grappling through a mountain pass.

| Approach | Best for | What it provides |
|---|---|---|
| Chapter-by-chapter written guide | Finding a specific item once you know its name or chapter | Landmarks and location descriptions; Camzillasmom’s guide is organized from Chapter 1 through Chapter 13. |
| In-game collection and chapter replay | Identifying what is missing and returning to its chapter | The collection provides the entry name to look for; the Filibuster Blog describes the Load Game > Chapter Replay route. |
The walkthroughs are secondary guides, and the reviewed sources do not establish that either was checked against a particular current game patch. For disputed labels, the in-game collection is the better reference.
