South of Midnight was developed by Compulsion Games. Players control Hazel in a third-person adventure built around her magical weaving power, which supports combat, traversal and puzzles. Her opponents include creatures drawn from the game’s folklore-inspired setting, such as Two-Toed Tom, Huggin’ Molly and the Rougarou.

The game’s creative influences include Southern Gothic and magical realism. In a 2023 Xbox Wire interview, creative director David Sears described magical realism as “one of the calling cards of Southern Gothic.” That framing helps explain the mixture of everyday Southern settings and supernatural events; it does not mean the game presents a documentary account of the region’s folklore.
Which platforms is South of Midnight on?
The game first launched on Xbox and PC on April 8, 2025. Nintendo lists the Nintendo Switch 2 version as available from March 31, 2026, and PlayStation’s Canadian listing gives March 31, 2026 as the PS5 release date. Check your regional store for local availability and edition details.

The Weaver’s Edition is a digital edition with the full game and extras, but the listed contents vary by platform. The Xbox product page describes an English-language edition with a digital artbook and original soundtrack. Nintendo’s English-language Switch 2 listing also names a comic, music video and director’s-cut documentary. Check the store page for the specific platform before buying.

Is there a vinyl soundtrack?
Yes: Xbox Wire reported a separate physical collector box set with a two-LP vinyl edition of the full soundtrack and a 160-page art book, along with a comic and other materials. This physical collectible is distinct from the digital extras listed for the Weaver’s Edition. The announcement establishes the reported contents, not current stock or retailer availability.
Composer Olivier Deriviere described the music’s development as beginning with the creatures’ stories: “We needed to know the story of the creatures first, which then spawned the narrative – our version of the [real-life] tales – which in turn spawned the lyrics.” The bracketed words are part of the published quotation.
