South of Midnight originally launched on April 8, 2025. It is now available on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, Steam, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. Compulsion Games describes it as a single-player, third-person action-adventure rooted in Southern folklore, with an estimated playthrough of 10–12 hours.
When did South of Midnight come out?
South of Midnight launched on April 8, 2025. Eligible Premium Edition purchasers and players who bought the Premium Upgrade received early access beginning April 3, up to five days before the standard launch. Xbox Wire announced the original release date and early-access offer in January 2025: Xbox Wire’s release announcement.
What platforms is South of Midnight on?
The game first released on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, Steam and cloud gaming services. Its later console releases added PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 on March 31, 2026. The current platform list is therefore broader than the original 2025 launch announcement.

Xbox Wire said the Xbox release supports Xbox Play Anywhere, including cross-entitlements and cross-saves across Xbox consoles, Windows PC and cloud. That statement concerns the Xbox ecosystem; it does not establish cross-save support between Xbox and PlayStation or Nintendo platforms. The Nintendo US announcement and US PlayStation Store listing give March 31, 2026 as the date for their respective releases: Nintendo’s Switch 2 announcement and the US PlayStation Store listing.

What kind of game is South of Midnight?
It is a single-player, third-person action-adventure set in the fictional town of Prospero in the American Deep South. After a hurricane strikes, protagonist Hazel discovers she is a Weaver: she uses magical abilities in combat, traversal and puzzles while confronting Southern folklore and her family’s past. How long is South of Midnight?
Compulsion Games estimated a 10–12-hour playthrough. That is the developer’s target for the game, not an independently measured average; individual completion time can vary with pace and optional exploration. The estimate appears in Xbox Wire’s announcement and the developer FAQ.

What comes with each edition?
Edition names and bundles differ across platform storefronts, so check the listing for your region before buying. The original Xbox announcement and Compulsion’s FAQ describe Standard as the base game and Premium as the game plus digital extras. Steam, Nintendo and PlayStation use the name Weaver’s Edition for a game-and-extras bundle in their listings.

What PC specs does the Steam version require?

These figures are from Steam’s system-requirements listing. Xbox Wire’s January 2025 announcement gave a 55 GB install size, a different platform-specific figure from Steam’s 60 GB PC storage requirement. Compulsion also says the game is Steam Deck Verified; its reported pre-launch testing and tuning found performance consistently above 30 FPS at medium quality and 800p. That is the developer’s pre-launch claim, not an independent benchmark or a guarantee for every configuration; see the FAQ.

Xbox Wire documented a physical collection called The Art and Music of South of Midnight, made with Dutch design house and publisher Cook and Becker. The announced set includes a two-LP soundtrack in a gatefold package, a 160-page art book, a comic book and more. Its announcement described pre-orders in March 2025; it does not establish current stock, shipping regions or availability through any particular retailer.
