When did South of Midnight release?
The standard release was April 8, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. Pacific Time, or 16:00 UTC. Both dates fell during Pacific Daylight Time (UTC−7). Compulsion Games listed the unlock time in its official FAQ.
When did early access begin?
Early access began April 3, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. Pacific Time (16:00 UTC), giving eligible players a five-calendar-day head start. The developer described this as “up to 5 days” of early access.
Who was eligible for early access?
- Players who purchased the Premium Edition.
- Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass subscribers who also purchased the Premium Upgrade add-on.
A Game Pass subscription by itself was not enough to unlock the early-access period. Xbox Wire’s January 23, 2025 launch announcement also said Standard Edition buyers and eligible Game Pass subscribers could upgrade to Premium for early access and digital extras.

Compulsion Games listed Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and Steam as platforms, with Microsoft Store and Steam Store as purchase routes. Xbox also announced Xbox app for Windows PC, cloud availability, and day-one Game Pass availability. The launch announcement described Xbox Play Anywhere cross-entitlements and cross-saves. Game Pass catalog and cloud availability can change over time, so check the relevant service for current access.
Standard Edition
The Standard Edition includes the base game.
Premium Edition
The Premium Edition includes the base game, early access of up to five days, a digital artbook, original soundtrack, The Boo-Hag comic, a music video, and a documentary. The official pages describe these as digital extras and do not establish a physical edition.
