The 2024 Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 roadmap promised free gameplay updates for every player, while the Season Pass focused on chapter-themed cosmetics. Its headline content included new Operations, enemies, weapons, difficulty options, PvP features, and quality-of-life improvements. The roadmap was broadly delivered during 2024, although the largest Season 2 releases arrived in December rather than October.
This is a retrospective of the original 2024 roadmap and what was actually released. It also explains how later updates changed the schedule, Season Pass structure, and the meaning of the original roadmap.

What the Space Marine 2 2024 roadmap promised
Focus Entertainment published the original roadmap on August 27, 2024. It divided post-launch support into launch content, Season 2, and further updates planned for 2025 and beyond.

| First weeks after launch | Quick patches, balance adjustments, and improvements based on player feedback. |
| Season 2: October–December 2024 | A free Operations map, a new enemy, a higher difficulty, a new weapon, and other improvements. Season Pass owners were also promised Dark Angels cosmetics. |
| 2025 and beyond | Additional Operations, PvP maps, new modes including Horde Mode, and more chapter cosmetics. |
The most important roadmap detail was its payment model: all gameplay content was promised as free updates. New weapons, maps, enemies, and game modes were not locked behind the Season Pass.

What Season Pass 1 included
Season Pass 1 was a cosmetic package built around Space Marine chapters. It did not include exclusive access to the roadmap’s gameplay additions.
Dark Angels Chapter Pack
The main 2024 Season Pass release was the Dark Angels Chapter Pack, released with Patch 5.0 on December 10, 2024. It included:
- Dark Angels Successor Chapter heraldry for Angels of Absolution, Angels of Redemption, Angels of Vengeance, the Unnamed, Blades of Vengeance, Cowled Wardens, Bringers of Judgement, and Angels of Defiance.
- A Dark Angels Champion skin for the Bulwark class.
- Dark Angels weapon skins for the Auto Bolt Rifle, Plasma Pistol, Power Sword, and Bulwark Storm Shield.
- A Dark Angels armour set, banner, and additional armour pieces, including the Mark VIII Ravenwing helmet.
The Dark Angels Champion armour set was explicitly described as non-customizable in Focus’s November 2024 community update.

Ultra Edition bonuses
The original Ultra Edition included the Ultramarines Champion Pack. It contained a complete Heavy armour set and a unique Heavy Bolter, and was not planned for separate sale.
The pre-order-only Macragge’s Chosen cosmetic set becomes available after completing the campaign mission “Skyfire.”

Space Marine 2 2024 update schedule
The original roadmap used broad release windows rather than fixed monthly dates. These were the major updates that actually arrived in 2024:
| Update | Release date | Main additions |
|---|---|---|
| Patch 3.0 | September 26, 2024 | Ultrawide support, private Operations lobbies, the Sparring Arena in the Battle Barge, and balance changes. |
| Patch 4.0 — Termination | October 17, 2024 | The Termination Operation, Hierophant Bio-Titan, Lethal difficulty, Photo Mode for Operations, and balance changes. |
| Patch 4.1 | October 24, 2024 | Difficulty adjustments, improved Ruthless armour, stronger bots against bosses, Zoanthrope changes, and fixes for rolling and Lethal rewards. |
| Patch 5.0 — Obelisk | December 10, 2024 | The Obelisk Operation, Tzaangor Enlightened enemy, Dark Angels Chapter Pack, lens-colour customization, the Neo-Volkite Pistol in PvP, melee changes, PS5 Pro enhancements, and DLSS 3/FSR 3 frame generation. |
In practical terms, the October-to-December Season 2 window was met. However, the headline Season Pass cosmetics and the Obelisk content arrived in December, not at the beginning of October.
Patch 4.0 difficulty changes and the 4.1 correction
Patch 4.0 substantially increased the difficulty of Operations, particularly at higher levels. Focus later acknowledged that the changes weakened the intended power fantasy of playing a Space Marine.
Patch 4.1, released one week later, should therefore be treated as part of the final 2024 difficulty implementation. It:
- Increased player armour on Ruthless by 10%.
- Partially reversed several difficulty effects introduced in Patch 4.0.
- Gave bots 30% more damage against bosses.
- Slowed Zoanthrope shield-swapping.
- Fixed a bug that shortened roll distance.
- Fixed a bug affecting Lethal-difficulty reward decals.
It is inaccurate to describe Patch 4.0’s original difficulty settings as the unchanged end state of 2024.

- Defend the Empire as a Space Marine in brutal and always replayable PvE missions for up to 3 players

Other useful 2024 additions
Sparring Arena
The Sparring Arena is on the Battle Barge. While playing Operations or Eternal War, reach the Launch Bay to access it and test weapons or melee attacks.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsSee the Patch 3.0 announcement.
Mods and public matchmaking
Patch 5.0 stopped supporting mods in public lobbies. That was a multiplayer restriction, not a complete removal of all mod use from the game. The claim that mods were entirely banned is therefore too broad.
What happened after the 2024 roadmap?
The original roadmap is no longer a current release schedule. Later updates extended and revised the plan.
Year 1 content released in 2025
- Patch 6.0 — Datavault: February 6, 2025. Added the Datavault, Research Center, Ordeals, Research Data, and related rewards.
- Patch 7.0 — Trygon: April 15, 2025. Added the Exfiltration Operation, PvE Prestige Ranks, private PvP lobbies, the Inferno Pistol, and Space Wolves Season Pass content.
- Patch 8.0 — Siege: June 26, 2025. Added Siege Mode plus White Scars and Blood Angels cosmetics.
- Patch 9.0: July 29, 2025. Added further Datavault functionality, balance changes, Siege changes, and stability improvements.
Focus later said it was targeting updates approximately every two months because polished updates required more development time. The game did not follow a strict monthly update schedule.
Season Pass 2
Season Pass 2 is a separate yearly pass. Owning Season Pass 1 does not automatically grant its content.

- Games Workshop - Warhammer 40,000 - Space Marines: Primaris Intercessors
The Year 2 roadmap promised four Operations, one new Siege map, three Eternal War arenas, new PvE Stratagems, the Helbrute Onslaught PvP mode, the Techmarine class, new weapons and variants, new enemies and bosses, additional progression systems, and nine cosmetic Season Pass 2 releases.
Focus later revised the roadmap and said postponed Year 2 content would remain free and roll into Year 3.

Roadmap status as of September 2026
The 2024 roadmap has been superseded by later Year 2 and Year 3 plans. Based on the latest official announcements available before August 8, 2026:
- Patch 13.0 — Purgation launched on May 21, 2026. It added the Purgation Operation, Battle Simulator, loadout and perk swapping, Wargear 2.0, Siege 2.0, Trials of Resolve, the Bolt Carbine One-Handed, new Heroic weapons, and the Iron Hands Chapter Pack.
- Patch 13.2 changed Siege enemy-resistance scaling and disabled Atonements on Normal difficulty.
- Patch 14 was announced as upcoming in the latest supplied official material. Its announced content includes the Facility and Sanctum PvP maps, the Scarab Occult Terminator Sorcerer, six Heroic weapon variants, Salamanders Champion Pack 2, the Raptors Cosmetic Pack, and further Wargear 2.0 additions such as robes and tabards.
- Year 3 is planned to include five major updates, Patches 15 through 19, with free weapons, missions, and other content, plus another cosmetic-focused Season Pass.
- A new playable class is planned for the first half of 2027, but its identity had not been officially revealed in the supplied announcement.
Patch 13 also introduced known Wargear customization issues involving Iron Halos, Storm Shields, backpacks, and Armour Set Templates. Players encountering those problems should check the relevant hotfix notes rather than assume their cosmetic unlocks are permanently missing.

Bottom line
The 2024 roadmap delivered its central promise: gameplay updates were free, while Season Pass 1 primarily sold chapter cosmetics. Patch 3.0, Termination, Patch 4.1, and Obelisk formed the core of the year’s support, with the Dark Angels content arriving alongside the December update. The roadmap should not be used to describe the game’s current schedule, and neither Season Pass 1 nor the original Ultra Edition includes Season Pass 2 automatically.
