Contemporary reports described campaign and multiplayer footage, with one report saying players appeared to retain character levels and items while playing. That was an observation of leaked footage—not confirmation of how progression, accounts, or enforcement worked.
What was in the Space Marine 2 leak?
In reports published July 16 and 17, 2024, Digital Trends and Game Developer said a playable pre-release build was circulating and that people had uploaded footage and appeared to have downloaded and played it. The footage reportedly showed campaign content and a version of multiplayer. These descriptions concern the leaked build; they do not establish what the final, released game contained at launch.
Digital Trends attributed an estimate of roughly 75 GB and the description “mostly player-ready” to Insider Gaming. That estimate was not independently verified in the reporting summarized here. Ars Technica described footage that appeared mostly complete, while noting placeholder assets in menus. Ars also reported that Focus Entertainment copyright claims had removed much of the footage by the time of its article; that does not establish whether leaked files or videos are available now.
Did players keep their levels in the leaked build?
Ars Technica said the footage suggested that players online retained character levels and items “for now, at least.” This is the basis for the July 2024 “leveling up” claim. It is not confirmation that progression was linked to retail accounts, that progress carried over to the released game, or that anyone later faced account flags or bans. The reporting cited here does not establish those outcomes.

What did Focus Entertainment say?
Focus described the build as unfinished and said it would be almost a year old by the official launch. In a statement reproduced by Ars Technica and Game Developer, the publisher said: “We’re asking everyone to avoid this unfinished build and to not spoil the game for those excited to experience it for the first time at launch.”
Focus also said: “We’re saddened that this build, which will be almost a year old by the time we launch, is how some of our most eager fans will first experience Space Marine 2.” Digital Trends reproduced another line from the publisher’s July 2024 statement: “Our teams have poured years of hard work, passion, and dedication into creating a game worthy of your hopes and expectations, and it’s disheartening that many of the surprises we worked to keep secret were spoiled.”

How does the leak compare with the released game?
Space Marine 2 launched on September 9, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Saber’s official FAQ describes it as a third-person shooter set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe and a direct sequel to 2011’s Space Marine. The publisher’s warning that the leaked build was unfinished and nearly a year old by launch is important context: footage from it should not be treated as a guide to the retail game’s final content or current state.
The game continued to receive post-launch support. Focus announced Patch 15, also called Anniversary Update II, on October 1, 2026, describing it as the start of the game’s third year of support. The update was available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC and included a Siege Mode spin-off, progression mechanics, weapons, armor pieces, and two Season Pass 3 cosmetic DLCs. A September 2026 community update previewed Patch 16 for the remainder of 2026 and planned 2027 additions including a new class, operations, weapons, and gameplay reworks; those roadmap items were plans, not delivered features at the time of the update.

How many people played the leaked build?
The cited reports do not establish how many people downloaded or played the leak, nor how many accounts were affected. A separate launch figure should not be confused with leak access: PULLUP Entertainment announced on September 10, 2024, that Space Marine 2 had reached more than two million unique players worldwide in less than 24 hours after its official worldwide release.
