Director Vicky Jenson has described the story as addressing parental separation and change. Composer Alan Menken said its real-life grounding drew on a therapeutic model for looking at a social situation and its possible steps forward. Netflix Tudum’s story discussion includes the ending, so it is best approached as a spoiler source.
Who made and voices the film?
Vicky Jenson directed Spellbound. Lauren Hynek, Elizabeth Martin, and Julia Miranda wrote the screenplay. Rachel Zegler voices Ellian, alongside Nicole Kidman, Javier Bardem, John Lithgow, Jenifer Lewis, Nathan Lane, and Tituss Burgess. Netflix Tudum reports that Zegler sings in the film; scratch vocals she recorded before officially joining the cast helped shape the musical’s development.
