Sphinx is the academic club, Dragon is the adventure club, and Hippogriff is the nature and nurturing club in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery. None of the three is presented as stronger than the others. Each one is a way to shape your character’s identity, and each adds its own themed content to the game.
The three clubs compared
| Club | Official theme | Best fit for a player who wants to… |
|---|---|---|
| Sphinx | Academics and the pursuit of wisdom | Build a studious, learning-focused character |
| Dragon | Adventure | Build a daring, adventurous character |
| Hippogriff | Nature and nurturing | Build a character with an affinity for nature who cares for living things |
The official feature announcement and the publisher’s help page describe these themes, and the differences between the clubs come down to them. Neither source ranks the clubs against one another.

What the official sources do not settle
The official announcement and Jam City’s help page do not say whether choosing one club locks you out of the others, or whether any club gives a lasting competitive advantage. Do not rely on claims either way. To check the current behavior, open the Clubs section in the game after you reach Year 1, Chapter 8 and read the membership details shown there before committing.
