Splatoon 3 Version 9.0.0 arrived on August 29, 2024, with a special Big Run data addition, Nintendo-estimated connectivity improvements, and a set of multiplayer weapon adjustments. It also changed Salmon Run rewards and weapon Freshness progression, added support for four amiibo, and included bug fixes. The patch did not make every weapon change a nerf, but most of its listed combat adjustments reduced range, coverage, firing speed, or ink efficiency.
When did Splatoon 3 Version 9.0.0 release?
Nintendo released Version 9.0.0 on August 29, 2024. Nintendo’s summary says the update focused on adding data for a special Big Run, improving connectivity, and adjusting battles. The notes describe the Big Run content as data for an event to be held in the near future; they do not provide an event date in the 9.0.0 entry.

What did the update change in multiplayer?
The main balance changes affected seven weapon groups plus Trizooka. Nintendo’s percentages describe the stated adjustment to the listed mechanic, not a promise of an identical change in every match.

Nintendo’s stated reasoning
Nintendo said Squeezer and Foil Squeezer were intended to be difficult to master but powerful in skilled hands. In Nintendo’s view, their long range and movement speed while firing let players make many attempts and compensate for that difficulty. The slower first shot and movement are intended to make those advantages less forgiving.
For Range Blaster variants, Nintendo said it wanted careful aim to remain rewarding while reducing damage when an opponent’s position was uncertain. It also described the Snipewriter and Wellstring changes as reducing distant coverage. For the Slosher group, the increased ink cost addresses the weapons’ strong immediate fighting and inking power by making sustained use put more pressure on the ink supply. These are Nintendo’s explanations of its design goals, not independent measurements of how the weapons perform in play.

What connectivity improvement did Nintendo report?
Nintendo said it optimized internal processing and communication controls to shorten the time between data sent by one player being received by others and a response returning. Its estimates were an average reduction of approximately 0.4/60 second for general multiplayer connectivity and approximately 3.4/60 second in situations such as dealing damage or defeating opponents.
Nintendo cautioned that the reduction varies with the amount of information exchanged and the processing load. These are Nintendo’s estimates in the update notes, not independent measurements or a guarantee that every player will experience a particular reduction.

What else was added or changed?
Salmon Run rewards
- The reward-meter gear now changes each shift rather than each month.
- The update added an item exchangeable for fish scales, and reward-meter capsules can contain fish scales.
- Nintendo added data for a special Big Run.
Weapon Freshness
The XP needed to reach 1-star Freshness fell from 10,000 to 5,000. Nintendo said the total XP required for 2 stars or higher did not change. Weapons already between 5,000 and 10,000 XP reached 1 star after the update was applied and the weapon was used once in battle.
Amiibo and Splashtag
Version 9.0.0 added support for Callie (Alterna), Marie (Alterna), Pearl (Side Order), and Marina (Side Order) amiibo, and changed some Splashtag banner designs. Nintendo’s notes do not say these amiibo are required to install or play the update.
X Battles
The update reduced the likelihood of being matched again with players from a previous X Battle, but did not eliminate repeat matches. In Japan and nearby regions, players could no longer select Tentatek Division. Nintendo said this regional change addressed ranking effects after a very small share of players there chose the Americas-and-Europe division.
What bugs did Version 9.0.0 fix?
Nintendo’s notes list multiple fixes, including issues with brella canopy break behavior; dualie dodge rolls and splatana lunges interacting with Splash Walls or terrain; charger reticle visibility with certain ink colors; wall inking for some shots; and the Dread Wringer’s ink flight distance when jumping. The official entry contains the exact descriptions of these and other fixes; the list should not be read as confirmation that every gameplay issue was resolved.
