What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Yes. Split Fiction supports online cross-play between PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC, and one player can invite a friend using the free Friend’s Pass. One player must own the full game for both to play the complete adventure. Online play requires an internet connection and the relevant accounts; console players may also need their platform’s online multiplayer service.
How Friend’s Pass works
Electronic Arts describes Friend’s Pass as a way to play the two-player co-op game together when only one person owns the full game. The owner invites a friend who has installed Friend’s Pass; the Pass is not a second full-game purchase. EA says the pair can try the opening portion with the Pass, but ownership of the full game by one player is required to continue through the full adventure. The available EA descriptions differ on the demo endpoint: its support page calls it the first two levels, while its launch article describes the opening through the Mr. Hammer encounter in Neon Revenge. EA’s game page and launch article explain the offer.

Which platforms can play together?
EA’s current game page lists PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC for cross-play. EA also has a dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 feature page. Its support article’s platform list names PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S but omits Switch 2, so the newer, more complete game materials are the basis for the cross-play list here. EA announced the initial release for March 6, 2025; its Switch 2 feature article stated a June 5, 2025 release for that version.
What you need for an online cross-play invite
- Game access: One player owns the full game; the invited player installs Friend’s Pass from their platform’s store.
- Accounts: EA Help says an EA Account is needed to invite a friend. Players connecting across platforms must link their EA and platform accounts.
- Friend list and invite: Add the other player through the in-game EA Friends List and send the invitation from the game.
- Connection and cross-play setting: Both players need internet access. Make sure cross-play game invites are allowed in the game’s Privacy Settings.
- Console online service: EA Help says both console players need PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass for online play. Check the applicable service requirement for your platform, since platform policies can change.
These account and invitation requirements are described in EA Help’s Split Fiction support page.

Can you play together on one console or PC?
Yes. EA describes local split-screen co-op as an option. Its Friend’s Pass PC page says local couch co-op can be played offline and supports two controllers or, on PC, a controller plus keyboard and mouse. That input guidance is specific to EA’s PC page and should not be assumed to apply to every platform. See EA’s Friend’s Pass page.

If a player buys the full game after using Friend’s Pass but the Pass version continues to launch, EA Help recommends restarting the platform. For a physical copy, make sure the disc is inserted.
