The best main levels in Split Fiction are the ones that make its two-player design feel essential: each partner has to coordinate through a changing mix of worlds, abilities, and challenges. This is a subjective ranking, not an official list or a measured player consensus. I’m weighing co-op set pieces, mechanic variety, and memorable world design. The game’s structure and level names are documented; the ordering below is editorial judgment.

How this ranking works

Split Fiction alternates between science-fiction and fantasy settings, with mechanics and abilities that change as the adventure progresses. Its official description highlights platforming, stealth, puzzles, and cooperation between two players, making the shared experience a better basis for ranking than visual spectacle alone (EA’s official game page).

The ranking focuses on main levels. Optional Side Stories are separate diversions, not entries in the campaign list. The game has eight chapters; Radio Times counts 12 Side Stories across them (Radio Times’ chapter guide).

The best main levels in Split Fiction

1. The Dragon Slayer

Among the main-level names documented in chapter guides, The Dragon Slayer makes the strongest promise of a memorable set piece. The title evokes the fantasy scale and spectacle that make the campaign’s alternating worlds compelling. Its top placement is a judgment about that potential and the appeal of the setting—not a claim that an official ranking or player poll has singled it out.

Split Fiction Standard - PC Steam [Online Game Code]
  • This split-screen adventure is tailored for two. Experience co-op gameplay where you’ll have to coordinate your actions and timing as well as work together to overcome challenges.
  • Invite a friend to play with you for free on any platform (Crossplay on PS, Xbox & PC) with the Friend’s Pass*. This wild ride comes to you from Hazelight, the co-op thrill-makers that brought you It Takes Two and A Way Out.
  • Experience worlds that are entirely different from each other, unexpected new abilities, and a range of gameplay that includes platforming, puzzles, and more. There are surprises waiting for you and your friend in every new level.
  • Mio and Zoe don’t get along at first, but soon enough they become each other’s only hopes. This journey will throw unexpected twists at them and if they want to make it through, they’ll need to have each other’s backs.

2. The Getaway Car

The Getaway Car stands out for suggesting an immediate co-op scenario: a vehicle escape is naturally suited to partners coordinating movement and timing. It is one of several distinct entries in Neon Revenge, a chapter whose guide-listed sequence includes urban settings and set-piece-sounding stages such as Rush Hour, Gravity Bike, and Skyscraper Climb. The chapter’s apparent variety makes it a strong candidate for players who favor a fast-changing science-fiction backdrop.

3. The Ice King

The Ice King closes the guide-listed main-level sequence for Hopes of Spring. Its placement reflects the appeal of a fantasy chapter that moves through locations such as The Underlands, Heart of the Forest, and Halls of Ice. It offers a clear contrast to the neon-city and industrial science-fiction chapters elsewhere in the campaign.

4. The Overseer

The Overseer is a standout name in Final Dawn, a science-fiction chapter with a broad run of main levels, from The Dropship and Infiltration to Test Chamber and System Fail Safe Mode. The range of titles suggests a chapter built around changing situations rather than one sustained setting, fitting the game’s emphasis on new mechanics and coordinated play.

5. The Hydra

The Hydra is the final main level listed for The Hollow. Its placement recognizes the promise of a fantasy finale after a chapter that includes Ghost Town, Light in the Dark, and Spiritual Guides. As with the other picks, the name and chapter context support the recommendation; they do not establish the exact mechanics of the level.

What the chapter list tells you—and what it doesn’t

GameSpot’s guide lists the main sub-levels by chapter and separates Side Stories. That list confirms a long sequence of distinct named stages in chapters such as Neon Revenge, Final Dawn, Rise of the Dragon Realm, and Isolation (GameSpot’s chapter guide). Titles and chapter themes help identify the campaign’s breadth, but they are not enough to verify a particular level’s puzzles, abilities, or set pieces. The picks above therefore avoid presenting inferred mechanics as walkthrough facts.

For orientation, the guide lists main-level sequences including Rader Publishing’s Freedom Fighters and Brave Knights; Neon Revenge’s urban run; Hopes of Spring’s fantasy journey; and the science-fiction chapters Final Dawn and Isolation. Rise of the Dragon Realm and The Hollow add further fantasy settings. The final chapter, Split, is named in the guide, but its visible list does not provide the full sub-level sequence, so this ranking does not invent entries for it.

Playing the levels with a partner

The campaign is designed around two players coordinating actions and timing. EA says Friend’s Pass allows a friend to join online when one player owns the game; the listed platforms are PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Both players need to be online, and console online play requires the relevant subscription. Check EA Help for current platform and subscription conditions before arranging a session (EA Help: Friend’s Pass).

GameSpot estimates about 12 hours for the main story and about 16 hours for full completion; those are guide estimates, not guaranteed playtimes. Radio Times lists eight chapters and 12 optional Side Stories. A chapter’s number of named sub-levels does not by itself tell you how long it will take to play.

Verdict

For a recommendation based on distinctive worlds and the potential for memorable shared set pieces, start with The Dragon Slayer, The Getaway Car, and The Ice King. Treat this as an editorial shortlist rather than a definitive consensus: the available chapter listings establish the campaign’s structure, not an objective winner.
