What is known about Split Fiction crashing on PS5?
Players have reported full PS5 crashes while playing Split Fiction, including a report titled “PS5 fully crashes after 10 Minutes playing Split Fiction.” The available reports are anecdotal and do not establish how common the problem is or identify one cause.
In that EA forum thread, EA Community Manager EA_Shepard said, “So, I am seeing a few more players who crash while playing within a good 15-20(ish) minutes give or take. Most appear to be on PlayStation! I reached out to the team but there are no current open issues with the game crashing on PS5.” That was a response at the time of the thread; it is not confirmation of current issue status or a universal fix. EA’s support hub links update notes dated March 17, 2025, for issues identified since launch. The available information does not establish that those notes—or a later update—specifically fixed full-system PS5 crashes. Check EA’s Split Fiction support and news links.

Try these fixes in order
Start with the least disruptive steps. EA and PlayStation recommend these measures for relevant game crashes or game-start problems, but neither source presents them as a guaranteed Split Fiction-specific cure. EA’s crash and loading guidance and PlayStation’s game troubleshooting steps provide the broader instructions.
- Close the game and restart the PS5. Fully close Split Fiction, turn off the console, and wait 30–60 seconds before turning it on and launching the game again. Do not just put the console into Rest Mode.
- Install available updates. Check for a Split Fiction update and install any available PS5 system software update, then test the game again.
- Disconnect USB devices. Remove devices connected to the PS5’s USB ports and retest. Reconnect them afterward one at a time if the crash stops, so you can check whether one device is involved.
- Restore the game license. On PS5, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses, select Split Fiction if prompted, and test again.
- Check where the game is installed. If Split Fiction is on USB extended storage, move it to the PS5’s internal storage and retest. This is a troubleshooting step, not a reason to buy another drive.
- Reinstall the game if it still crashes. Delete Split Fiction, then download and install it again. Confirm that your saved data is available before deleting anything if you are unsure about your save backup or sync settings.
- Use PS5 Safe Mode as a later step. Follow PlayStation’s official Safe Mode instructions to clear the system software cache or rebuild the database. These are distinct options; choose the relevant cache or database option and follow the on-screen instructions. Avoid reinstalling system software unless simpler steps have failed and you have followed PlayStation’s backup guidance.
EA’s forum response also mentions PSN sign-in, connection guidance, NAT type, and DNS. Those checks are more relevant if the problem happens only during online play or alongside connection errors; for a full-console crash, begin with the local game and console steps above.

If the PS5 still shuts off while playing
Contact EA or PlayStation support and describe exactly what happens. A game closing to the home screen, an error message, and a full console shutdown are different symptoms. Include the crash time, any error code, your PS5 model, game version, whether you were playing locally or online, and steps that reproduce the crash.
Also note whether you own the game or use Friend’s Pass, and whether the crash occurs during a particular mission or cutscene. EA’s thread asks players for these details, along with console generation and crash type; PlayStation asks for error information and a description of the behavior and reproduction steps.
