Yes—one full-game copy of Split Fiction is enough for two people to play the entire game together online. The owner invites a friend, who installs the free Friend’s Pass. You can also play local couch co-op, and a Nintendo Switch 2 host has a separate local-wireless GameShare option. The right choice depends on whether you’re playing online or in the same room, and which platforms you use.
What is Split Fiction Friend’s Pass?
Friend’s Pass lets someone who does not own Split Fiction join an owner for online co-op. The invited player downloads the free pass from their platform’s store; the owner sends an invitation in-game. EA’s Friend’s Pass page puts it simply: “As long as one of you owns the game, both of you can play!”

The invited player needs an internet connection and a platform account, and online invitations require an EA Account linked to that platform account. Console players also need the applicable online subscription. Requirements and store availability can vary by platform and region, so check the platform’s current listing and subscription terms.
Is Split Fiction cross-play?
Yes. EA lists PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 for cross-play. Two players on supported platforms can join each other online using Friend’s Pass; the guest does not need to buy another full copy. EA’s Split Fiction help page explains that invitations are sent through the in-game friends list or EA Friends List, and that console players must enable cross-play invites in the relevant settings.

- Both sign in with platform accounts linked to EA Accounts.
- The owner opens the in-game friends list and invites the other player. On console, check that cross-play invitations are enabled.
EA’s game page and Switch 2 announcement list the supported platforms. Do not confuse Switch 2 cross-play with Switch 1 support: EA describes Switch 1 only as a possible GameShare guest, not as a standard full-game platform for Split Fiction.
Can you try Split Fiction for free?
Yes. EA Help says both players can download Friend’s Pass and play the first two levels free. To continue beyond that opening, one player must own the full game and invite the other. Progress made in the demo carries over when you continue with the full game.

Can you play couch co-op offline?
Yes. Local couch co-op is for two players sharing one local session, rather than joining across the internet. EA’s PC instructions say local play can be offline. On PC, use either two controllers or one controller plus keyboard and mouse. This is separate from online Friend’s Pass play, which requires an internet connection.
