Cloud Imperium Games currently lists Q2 2027 as the launch window, while chairman Chris Roberts has described the single-player campaign as “over forty hours in length.” Q2 is a window, not a confirmed release day, and the runtime figure is the developer’s description—not an independently measured playtime.
When is Squadron 42 coming out?
Cloud Imperium Games’ official Squadron 42 page lists Q2 2027. In an August 2026 chairman’s letter, Chris Roberts said CIG had originally planned to release the game in Q4 2026, around the Intergalactic Aerospace Expo, before moving it to Q2 2027. He wrote: “We have taken a look at the release windows at the start of 2027, and decided that Q2 provides a better time for Squadron 42 to release.” Roberts cited avoiding the attention surrounding GTA 6 as the reason for choosing that window.
The official statements establish a release period, not a specific calendar date. Roberts said CIG would make further announcements about its plans and provide a specific date afterward.
How long is Squadron 42?
In his 2025 year-end letter, Roberts called Squadron 42 “a large game, over forty hours in length.” That is CIG’s estimate or description of the game’s length; it is not a verified completion-time measurement. The statement does not establish how long an individual player will take to finish, or whether the figure refers to a particular play style.
