RSI’s currently published shared requirements for CIG games, including Squadron 42, call for Windows 10 64-bit or Windows 11, a supported quad-core CPU, a DirectX 11.1 graphics card with 4 GB of graphics memory, at least 16 GB of RAM, and an SSD with 150+ GB. These are not a confirmed final, standalone PC specification for Squadron 42: RSI says the game is still in development and is not available to download.
Squadron 42 PC requirements at a glance
| Component | RSI’s published requirement |
|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 64-bit (latest service pack) or Windows 11 |
| Processor | Quad-core CPU with AVX, AVX2, and FMA3 support; RSI gives Intel i7 Haswell or later and AMD Excavator or later as examples |
| Graphics | DirectX 11.1 graphics card with 4 GB graphics memory |
| Memory | 16 GB or more RAM |
| Storage | SSD with 150+ GB |
RSI’s Game and Launcher Requirements page, updated December 17, 2025, describes these as minimums for its games rather than a Squadron 42-specific final spec sheet. RSI says it strongly recommends meeting at least these minimums to install, load, and play effectively.

What each requirement means for your PC
Windows only, according to RSI
The listed operating systems are Windows 10 64-bit with the latest service pack or Windows 11. RSI says Linux and macOS are not currently supported.
Check CPU features, not just core count
A quad-core processor is not automatically sufficient: RSI explicitly lists AVX, AVX2, and FMA3 instruction support. Its examples are Intel i7 Haswell or later and AMD Excavator or later. Check the exact CPU model and its instruction-set support before treating it as compliant.

Graphics memory and DirectX
The graphics requirement is a DirectX 11.1-capable card with 4 GB of graphics memory. RSI does not attach a Squadron 42-specific frame-rate target or performance guarantee to this threshold, so meeting it is not a promise of a particular resolution, graphics setting, or frame rate.
RAM and SSD capacity
Plan for at least 16 GB of system RAM and an SSD with 150+ GB as listed by RSI. The same support page separately recommends an NTFS-formatted drive with at least 100 GB for the RSI Launcher and Star Citizen installation, plus another 10 GB of SSD space for the pagefile. It does not explain how those separate figures relate to or combine with the 150+ GB listed for the shared game requirements, so do not treat them as a precise total for a future Squadron 42 installation.

How to check whether your PC meets the published minimums
- Check Windows: confirm that the PC runs 64-bit Windows 10 (with the latest service pack) or Windows 11.
- Identify the processor: look up the exact CPU model and verify it has at least four cores and supports AVX, AVX2, and FMA3.
- Check the graphics card: confirm DirectX 11.1 support and 4 GB of graphics memory.
- Check installed RAM: verify the system has 16 GB or more.
- Check storage: confirm an SSD has at least the published 150+ GB capacity available for the stated requirement; allow for the separate launcher, Star Citizen, and pagefile recommendations where relevant.
What to upgrade if your PC falls short
Compare your PC with RSI’s thresholds component by component: CPU core count and instruction support, graphics API and memory, system RAM, and SSD capacity. RSI’s published page gives no comparative benchmarks or expected frame rates, so it cannot establish which particular processor or graphics card is the best upgrade. If your CPU lacks any required instruction set, additional RAM or storage will not address that shortfall; likewise, more graphics memory does not replace the listed DirectX support.
Because the game is still in development and RSI has not published a final standalone Squadron 42 specification in the cited guidance, treat upgrades as meeting today’s shared minimums—not as a guarantee that a system will meet launch requirements or deliver a particular level of performance.
