What does the Ratatoskr update add?
The update combines a new ascent challenge with a boss encounter at the Golden Acorn Tree. Its story brings Ratatoskr together with Mother and Father, setting up a fight against the new boss.

Super Platformer level
The Super Platformer sends the squirrel upward through cyclone debris toward the boss. Agents threaten the player during the climb, so the level leads directly into the Ratatoskr encounter rather than serving as a separate arena.
Ratatoskr boss fight
The official announcement describes Ratatoskr as fast-moving, capable of ranged and melee attacks, and smaller than the game’s vehicle-based bosses. It also outlines several attacks: a frontal horn or tusk strike, burrowing into the ground and bursting out beneath the player, and growing larger to use the horn or tusk as a melee weapon. How does the boss fight’s weapon mechanic work?
Players receive an SMG with infinite ammunition for the encounter. According to the announcement, quick shooting reflexes let players block and deflect Ratatoskr’s attacks back at the boss. The official post frames the fight around using that mechanic against Ratatoskr’s attacks.
How do you unlock the update’s outfits?
The four outfits have separate requirements. The two platforming rewards depend on deaths during the Super Platformer; the Norse Squirrel outfits are tied to defeating Ratatoskr.

Is Ratatoskr the newest update?
No. The Ratatoskr update is version 1.4.3.0, released December 17, 2024. The official Squirrel with a Gun Steam news archive lists later releases, including the Gravity Gun update in April 2025 and the Varmint update in December 2025. The Ratatoskr update is the one described by this headline, not the latest release listed in that archive.

Nintendo’s official store page lists Squirrel with a Gun for Nintendo Switch 2. That establishes a platform listing, but not current stock, price, or availability in every region. The Ratatoskr update’s announcement describes the added content; it does not make buying a particular edition necessary to understand it.
