The PSZ-5V Guardian of Freedom Suit is the strongest guide-supported pick for flexible early-game armor in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl. It is reported on a rooftop at the Brood base in the Garbage, west of the Slag Heap. The route and equipment details below come from guides published in 2024; they have not been confirmed against Update 2.0.
Why the PSZ-5V Guardian of Freedom is a strong early pick
Windows Central recommends the PSZ-5V for its balance of weight, damage protection, anomaly resistance, two artifact slots, upgrade options and manageable repair cost. GamesFuze also recommends it and lists its weight as 7.0 kg. That figure is a guide-published equipment detail, not a current official stat-table confirmation.

GamesFuze says the suit covers protection categories other than Psi. That means it is a practical general-purpose choice, not complete coverage for every threat. The sources do not provide a full, like-for-like stat comparison with other early suits, so “best” depends on what you need: protection, anomaly resistance, artifact capacity, upgrade potential, repair expense or lower weight.
Windows Central’s Brendan Lowry described it as the best overall early-game choice after more than 30 hours of use. That is the publication’s author-reported experience, not a universal ranking for every build, difficulty or game version.

Where to get the PSZ-5V
-
Reach the Garbage region and head to the Brood base west of the Slag Heap.
-
Look for a slanted basement or bunker entrance near pipes.
-
Use the slope to reach the pipes, then follow them toward the building and climb to the roof.
-
Search the rooftop for the PSZ-5V. Windows Central places it beside a stash labeled “Tucked-Away Loot.”

These directions are reported by Windows Central and GamesFuze, whose guides were published in November 2024. Windows Central says Brood bandits are neutral unless attacked, but treat that as a guide-era detail and check their behavior in your game rather than relying on it as a current guarantee.
Rank #2
What to use before you reach the Brood base
Windows Central reports that its author used a Light Mercenary Suit found in a stash associated with The Journalist’s “Seek, and you shall find” quest before picking up the PSZ-5V. The reviewed sources do not provide enough comparable stats to establish which suit protects better or is cheaper to maintain, so regard the Light Mercenary Suit as a reported stopgap rather than a quantified alternative.
How current are the location and stats?
GSC Game World announced Update 2.0 on August 14, 2026, with an announced release date of August 20, 2026, describing it as a major overhaul. The official announcement does not establish whether armor spawns, stats or the rooftop route changed. The acquisition guides predate that update, so the Brood location and equipment details should be treated as guide-reported rather than patch-verified.
A March 28, 2026 WTG guide discusses SEVA as a later general-purpose suit, reporting five artifact slots and dual lead containers, and says exoskeleton use and upgrades are gated by progression. It also flags a potential SSP-100i bug. Those are version-sensitive claims from that guide, not a current verified comparison or a reason to delay an early pickup in pursuit of SEVA.
For an early flexible suit, the PSZ-5V is the clearest recommendation supported by the available guides: follow their route to the Brood rooftop, then confirm the item and encounter details in your current game version.
