The best option depends on where you are, what you can safely reach, and what you would have to spend to get there.
Which money-making methods are worth your time?
Compare a potential haul with the time, risk, weight, ammunition, and equipment wear required to get it. A compact artifact can be worthwhile on a route you already planned; a pile of damaged weapons may not be worth the repair bill or detour.

|---|---|---|
| Artifact hunting | When you can safely reach anomaly fields and have a detector | Anomaly exposure, travel time, and the risk of detouring for a low-value find |
| Weapon and ammunition loot | When useful or saleable items are along your existing route | Carry weight, combat risk, and repairs that can exceed resale proceeds |

| Side quests | When available from nearby settlements or traders | Time, travel, and the possibility that story progress closes some opportunities |
How to make artifact runs pay
Use a detector to search anomaly fields, and treat the artifacts you find as both equipment and potential income. Keep copies whose effects help your current build; sell duplicates or items whose effects you do not need. A guide also suggests that a barkeeper’s retrieval job may pay more than selling the requested artifact directly, but that is not a guaranteed multiplier. Check the offer and the sale price in your own game before handing the item over.
Account for the route as well as the artifact. Anomaly exposure and travel can consume supplies or damage equipment, so an out-of-the-way search for a low-value find may leave you worse off. Avoid treating any single artifact route or payout estimate as guaranteed across patches or stages of the game.
#1 Best Overall
Loot weapons and ammunition selectively
Pick up weapons and ammunition you do not need when they are close to your route and worth carrying. A damaged but usable weapon may still be saleable; a weapon in broken red condition can be a bad pickup if it needs expensive repairs before a trader will buy it. Compare the likely proceeds with the repair cost rather than assuming every weapon is profit.
- Prefer items you can carry without making a substantial detour.
- Do not repair a weapon solely for resale unless its expected sale proceeds clearly exceed the repair expense.
- Pass on loot if the ammunition, durability, or travel cost needed to secure it is likely to exceed its value.
Search stashes along routes you already take
Check stashes during exploration and on the way back to a hub instead of planning a separate trip around every cache. Stashes can contain weapons, armor, and other useful or saleable gear; Epic’s gameplay guide also covers special collectible stashes. Fold these searches into travel you already need to do, and weigh the contents against the risk and time of reaching them.
Take side quests before advancing the story
Check settlement notices and available jobs before moving the main story forward. Side quests can pay coupons and may also provide loot or improve access to local traders. A secondary guide dated August 21, 2026 warns that some side quests may become unavailable as the story progresses, so do not assume every job can be saved for later.
For an artifact retrieval job, compare its stated reward with what you could get by selling the item directly. The available guidance does not establish a universal payout advantage, so use the current offer in your game rather than relying on a fixed multiplier.
Reduce the costs that eat into your earnings
Income is only useful if it exceeds what you spend getting it. Bring equipment appropriate to the danger, conserve ammunition, and skip fights or loot runs whose likely reward is smaller than their cost. Repair gear you need to survive, but avoid paying to restore an item just to sell it unless the numbers work in your favor.
- Use routes that combine objectives, stashes, and salvage rather than making isolated trips.
- Leave behind low-value, heavy loot when carrying it would slow or complicate a more profitable run.
- Do not chase a fight solely for its drops if the ammunition and repairs are likely to cost more than the loot.
Should you farm between hubs?
A player-authored Steam guide recommends rotating between unlocked hubs while artifact and repeatable quest availability recovers, and describes an artifact route in the Garbage area. Treat that route as an optional community-reported example, not a guaranteed current farm: exact spawns and availability can vary by version, and the available sources do not establish one route as best for every player.
The secondary economy guide dated August 21, 2026 says it applies to Update 2.0 / Cost of Hope. GSC’s official news listing includes a September 18, 2026 patch-note entry, but the listing available here does not confirm whether that patch changed the economy. Verify current prices, quest requirements, and item availability in your game rather than relying on older figures or a route’s reported yields.
