Star Citizen is still an open alpha, but Cloud Imperium Games (CIG) has already suspended accounts over exploit abuse. That does not mean every Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) detection results in an account ban: RSI says EAC can kick a player or block a launch, while the documented suspensions followed an investigation into aUEC exploits.
Star Citizen is still in development
RSI’s Terms of Service describe pledges as granting early access to Star Citizen in an open alpha that remains in development. The game has continued to receive alpha deployments: RSI’s status page records Alpha 4.10.1 deploying on September 16, 2026. Being unfinished does not prevent CIG from enforcing its rules while development continues.
What anti-cheat does in Star Citizen
RSI’s current anti-cheat documentation identifies Easy Anti-Cheat. In an article updated June 8, 2026, RSI called its rollout “our first proper implementation of anti-cheat” and said EAC can kick a player or prevent the game from launching when it detects unauthorized changes to game files. That describes an immediate game-access response; it is not, by itself, evidence that an account has been suspended.
RSI’s Easy Anti-Cheat guidance explains the system. Its separate troubleshooting article, updated October 23, 2025, notes that file discrepancies, modified files, or third-party programs can contribute to launch or login problems. If you encounter an error, RSI recommends removing modified files and trying again. A blocked launch is not proof of a cheating finding or an account-level penalty.

Why CIG suspended more than 600 accounts
In June 2024, CIG said it had resolved multiple aUEC exploits in version 3.23.1a and suspended over 600 accounts it identified as involved in exploitative behavior. The statement, signed by Will “Soulcrusher” Leverett, CIG’s Senior Director of Player Relations, said: “Cheating and exploiting undermine the integrity of our game and the efforts of our dedicated backers who help us build Star Citizen.”
This is a historical figure tied to that particular aUEC exploit investigation, not a current total of bans and not a tally of EAC detections. CIG’s post establishes account suspensions for exploitative behavior; it does not say those suspensions were issued by EAC or specify that every account received a permanent ban. Read CIG’s account-suspension update.

Anti-cheat blocks and account suspensions are different
| Response | What can trigger it | Immediate effect | What the cited source establishes about account status |
|---|---|---|---|
| EAC | Detection of unauthorized game-file changes, according to RSI | May kick a player or block a launch | RSI’s cited EAC guidance does not say every detection automatically suspends an account or provide a current EAC-ban count. |
| Account enforcement | Conduct violations or exploit behavior reviewed by CIG/RSI | May range from a warning to suspension or loss of access | CIG reported suspending over 600 accounts in its June 2024 aUEC exploit investigation; the statement does not establish a universal penalty duration. |
The distinction matters if the game will not start: troubleshooting an EAC or file-integrity issue is different from appealing or addressing an account penalty. The public sources cited here do not establish that one automatically causes the other.
How RSI describes warnings, penalties, and reports
RSI’s Rules of Conduct, updated February 3, 2026, say that initial violations will in most cases receive a warning. Severe infractions may lead to immediate suspension, and repeated violations can result in longer removal of access. The policy leaves room for judgment; it does not set out one fixed punishment ladder specifically for every cheating or exploit case.

For suspected misconduct by another player, RSI’s reporting guidance, updated December 18, 2025, asks for evidence such as screenshots or video and the time of the incident. Reports are reviewed individually, and potential penalties range up to account suspension. RSI says it will not disclose another player’s account status, so a reporter may not learn what action, if any, followed.

- RSI identifies EAC as Star Citizen’s anti-cheat and documents kicks or launch blocks when it detects unauthorized file changes.
- CIG publicly documented over 600 account suspensions in one June 2024 investigation into aUEC exploit abuse.
- The available official statements do not give a current number of accounts banned specifically because of EAC detections.
- RSI’s EAC guidance does not say every detection automatically results in a permanent account ban.
So the accurate answer is that Star Citizen remains in alpha and CIG has enforced suspensions for exploit abuse. EAC can interfere with a player’s ability to launch or continue playing, but that should not be conflated with a documented account ban.
