Which Star Citizen free-to-play event was it?
Neowin’s May 15, 2025 report covered the Invictus Launch Week 2955 Free Fly. During that event, players could join with an account and try the game, along with a rotating selection of ships and ground vehicles, without buying access for the event’s duration. Does Star Citizen offer a free trial?
Not continuously. Roberts Space Industries says Star Citizen has no always-available free trial. Instead, it occasionally holds Free Fly events during which a Game Package is not required to log into the Alpha Test servers. A basic ship is provided, and its model can vary from one event to another. RSI says these events generally last a week or slightly longer. RSI’s Free Fly support article was updated May 27, 2026.
How did the 2025 ship and vehicle rotation work?
Neowin reported that different manufacturers took turns, with the available selection changing roughly every 48 hours. Players could use rental kiosks in the main hall of the Bevic Convention Center to choose ships offered in the current rotation. The report does not establish a complete roster or a precise total, so the headline’s “dozens” should not be treated as a fixed count available at one time.

How did players reach the Bevic Convention Center?
The reported route depended on where a player was starting:
- New character: Set the character’s spawn location to Area18.
- Already playing: Travel to Area18 and land at Riker Memorial Spaceport.
- From Area18: Follow the Invictus signs to the shuttle stop, then take the shuttle to the convention center.
Those directions were specific to the 2025 event and should not be assumed to apply to a later Free Fly.

How can you check whether a Free Fly is happening now?
Check RSI’s official website and recent Comm-Link announcements, then open the Knowledge Base article for the specific event. RSI recommends those channels for current event details; the general support article does not announce that any Free Fly is active today. Before downloading or planning around a future offer, verify its dates, access requirements, available ships and vehicles, rotation schedule, and in-game directions on the official event page.
A future announcement may differ from Invictus 2955: check whether access requires only an account or another step, which basic ship is provided, what the rotating roster includes, and how long each selection remains available. Optional flight controls such as a joystick are not established as necessary to participate.
