During renewed interest in Star Wars Battlefront II in May 2025, players called on EA to address cheating and disruptive matches. Insider Gaming reported 18,635 concurrent players on Steam when its May 29 article was written, but that is a historical snapshot—not a current player count. The article also relayed an unverified cross-platform estimate from unnamed EA sources. Later, community project KYBER said EA had patched multiple server-side exploits; that update does not establish that cheating ended.
What players were reporting in May 2025
Insider Gaming’s May 29, 2025 report described players asking EA to fix cheating as attention around the 2017 game rose. It characterized the complaints as primarily affecting PC players and mentioned matches being disrupted, crashing, or malfunctioning. Those are player reports summarized in a news article, not the results of a prevalence study, so they do not show how often cheating occurred or how many players encountered it. Insider Gaming’s report
The story’s popularity framing also belongs to that moment in 2025. It should not be read as evidence of a current surge or as a measurement of the game’s player base today.
What the reported player counts do—and do not—show
| Figure | What it represents | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| 18,635 concurrent players | Steam count reported by Insider Gaming when its article was written on May 29, 2025 | A dated Steam snapshot, not a current count or a count across all platforms. Source: Insider Gaming |
| “Hundreds of thousands” concurrent | Insider Gaming’s estimate for players across platforms and consoles, attributed to unnamed EA sources | Not a publicly documented or independently verified dataset; the article does not provide a breakdown by platform. Source: Insider Gaming |
Neither figure measures cheating. The available reporting does not establish a representative rate of cheating for October 8, 2026, or a current breakdown by platform or mode.

EA’s reporting instructions for suspected cheating
EA’s current player-reporting instructions give an in-game route for reporting a suspected cheater in Battlefront II:
- Open the scoreboard by pressing Esc.
- Click the suspected player’s name and view their profile.
- Open the EA app in-game overlay, then select the arrow dropdown.
- Choose Report Player.
Submitting a report is a way to flag a concern; EA’s instructions do not show whether a specific report was investigated or whether it resulted in action.

EA’s Javelin report does not list Battlefront II
In its April 24, 2025 anti-cheat progress report, EA said Javelin Anticheat was active in 14 EA titles and described the franchises it covered. Battlefront II is not among the titles or franchises named, so the report should not be taken as confirmation that Javelin protects this game. The absence of the game from that report also does not establish that EA has no anti-cheat measures for it. EA’s April 24, 2025 report
EA’s Head of Game Security, Elise Murphy, wrote: “We take player disputes very seriously as we never want to impact a legitimate player’s ability to play one of our games.” That is EA’s general statement about enforcement, not a Battlefront II-specific promise or an update on any particular report.

What KYBER later said about server-side fixes
In a later open-source development update, the community project KYBER said: “We are pleased to confirm that EA have deployed server-side fixes for multiple game-breaking exploits.” KYBER also said that most of the 16 game-server exploits its team reported in 2025 had been patched. The figure describes that team’s reported investigations, not all cheating incidents; its update does not establish that every exploit was fixed, every mode and platform was affected equally, or cheating stopped. KYBER’s development updates
This later account adds context to the May 2025 complaints, but it is not an EA announcement or a current measurement of match conditions. The May story’s statement that EA and DICE had not commented on an update or fix applied only at the time of that article.
