If Star Stable closes or gets stuck while loading your Home Stable, treat that as a loading or crash problem—not as the documented Home Stable portrait bug. The known-issues page describes a different problem: double-clicking a horse’s portrait in the Home Stable menu does not open its inspect function. Try the platform-specific checks below, then send Support details that can help distinguish the issue.
First, identify which Home Stable problem you have
- The game closes or hangs during loading: this is a crash or loading problem. Star Stable says getting stuck or crashing before play can have different causes on desktop and mobile; the Home Stable portrait issue is not listed as its cause. See Star Stable Support for current help.
- You are already in the stable, but a horse will not open for inspection: Star Stable’s known-issues page documents a menu interaction bug in which double-clicking a horse portrait does not trigger inspect. The list is not exhaustive, so Support is the route for an unlisted or different bug.
A player report about crashes during loading, including at the Home Stable, is anecdotal; it does not establish a widespread outage or a confirmed cause.
Try the general checks on any platform
Star Stable recommends these steps for trouble getting into the game or encountering a bug. They are checks, not guaranteed fixes.
- Restart your device, then try launching the game again.
- Check that your internet connection is strong and stable. On mobile, Star Stable recommends Wi-Fi.
- Install available updates for Star Stable and your device’s operating system.
- Close other apps running in the background, then launch Star Stable again.
- If you play on desktop, update your graphics drivers.
- If the problem remains, reinstall the game or app.
Star Stable lists several possible contributors, including outdated game software or graphics drivers, background apps, unstable internet, mobile-device compatibility, low storage, and corrupted files. Those possibilities do not identify the cause of a particular crash.

Windows: use the launcher’s crash steps
For repeated crashes on Windows, Star Stable gives a more specific file-repair step in its Windows crash guidance:
- Update your graphics drivers.
- Close other programs and restart Star Stable.
- At the login window, open the cogwheel menu and select Delete game files.
- If the crashes continue, contact Support and include when they happened, how often they happen, any error message, and a screenshot if possible.
Deleting game files is a troubleshooting option, not a promise that every crash will be fixed.

Mac and mobile: follow the general checks
The available official guidance provides the cross-platform checks above, but the Windows-specific Delete game files instruction is not a general Mac or mobile step. On mobile, check available storage as well as app and operating-system updates, and try a stable Wi-Fi connection. If the game still will not load, contact Support with your device model and platform rather than applying Windows launcher steps.
Send Support information that helps narrow it down
Describe what happened, when it happened, and whether it occurred once or repeatedly. Include the device model and platform, any error message, and a screenshot or screen recording if available. Desktop players should add their system specifications.

If you are having a desktop launcher problem, Star Stable’s launcher guidance says to open Settings > Logs, collect the resulting log files, and attach them to your support request. The launcher instructions are at Star Stable Support. For a login failure rather than an in-game loading crash, use the separate login troubleshooting guide.

In a 2025 technical update, Star Stable Technical Director Ismael Serrano discussed crashes and performance problems on some Android and Windows setups, including systems with integrated graphics. He wrote: “We will continue working on it until we find the root cause and determine how to set our system to work with those faulty drivers.” That statement referred to the driver-related freezes and glitches discussed in that update; it does not diagnose a particular player’s 2026 crash.
