Star Wars: Galactic Racer pairs a failure-sensitive solo tour with shorter online tours that build toward a knockout finale. Your vehicle build changes during a tour, while some vehicle upgrades, parts, favors and Racer Style improvements can carry into later runs. Multiplayer also awards XP toward characters and customization.
How multiplayer tours work
Multiplayer keeps the game’s runs-based approach but compresses it into shorter tours. Before racing, players choose a Racer Style and tune their vehicle with parts, upgrades and abilities. The tour then builds toward a final knockout event, where the remaining racers compete for the win. Fuse Games describes this format in its launch-day interview.

Players who are no longer in contention can still take part in the final race by voting for who they think will win. The developer says both tour victories and prediction voting award XP toward character and customization unlocks. It has not published a numeric XP amount or rate.

Player counts and cross-play
At launch, reviewers reported 12-player online Tours. Creative Bloq described drop-in sessions where bots filled empty slots, with five races leading to a Derven Acos decider; TechRadar also reported 12-player Tours and cross-play during its review sessions. Those are launch-week observations, not a guarantee that every mode or future session uses the same format.

- COMPETE IN HIGH-STAKES RACES - Slam, shunt, and takedown rivals across varied circuits as you pilot land speeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders, and pod racers. The greater the risk, the greater the reward.

- BUILD AND CUSTOMIZE YOUR CRAFT - Pilot different classes of repulsorcraft each with distinct physics and playstyles. Build a ride that showcases your style and gives you a competitive edge.
- BATTLE RIVALS IN MULTIPLE GAME MODES - Ride solo through a story-driven campaign of shifting alliances or brave strategic PvP grudge matches where reputation rides with you.
- CLIMB THE RANKS AND EARN REWARDS - Prove yourself through intense rivalries and escalating challenges. Every choice shapes your prospects as you build your status in The Galactic League.
Microsoft’s Xbox store listing describes online multiplayer for 2–12 players and Xbox cross-platform multiplayer. That platform-level listing does not establish that every mode supports 12 players. The official story-trailer announcement confirms separate podracer-focused online events, but does not give their player cap. The reviewed sources also do not establish a platform-by-platform cross-play matrix or cross-progression between platforms.
For Xbox console players, Microsoft’s current store listing says online multiplayer requires Game Pass Essential, Premium or Ultimate, sold separately. That requirement is specific to Xbox; it should not be assumed for PC or PlayStation.

Solo tours are branching runs with real failure stakes
The Galactic Tour is the campaign’s run-based mode. Xbox Wire’s June 2026 hands-on preview describes a randomized route across three acts, with branching event choices as the tour unfolds. Your choices determine which events you face rather than sending you through one fixed sequence.
Failure can end a tour. Crashing too many times or losing a high-stakes event can cost a League Token, so a risky route or build can have consequences beyond a single race. But failure does not mean every reward disappears: Xbox Wire reports that some Galactic Credits remain after a failed tour.

What changes during a tour
Your build is not fixed for the whole run. Fuse Games Creative Director Kieran Crimmins says players can adjust temporary vehicle stats such as cornering, resilience, Ramjet and afterburner, while also combining parts with different rarities and functions. Parts can develop faults, adding another variable to the build.
In the standard setup, a vehicle can have up to five parts installed, according to Crimmins in the October 6, 2026 interview. Parts come from event rewards or the shop. Event choices, the parts available to you and any faults can therefore change how you approach later races in that same tour.

What carries over between tours
Some progression is designed to last beyond an individual run. Crimmins says vehicle stats can be improved permanently. Completing a tour expands the parts pool, unlocks favors that alter the rules of future runs and lets players upgrade Racer Styles. These are separate from temporary stat adjustments and the specific mix of parts in a current tour.

In particular, do not treat multiplayer’s XP rewards as the same thing as campaign run stats: the developer describes multiplayer XP as progress toward character and customization unlocks.

How podracer events fit in
Podracing has dedicated online events, and the official story-trailer announcement also says players can access podracing through Arcade. These events are distinct enough that the Xbox store’s general 2–12-player listing should not be read as their specific capacity; the reviewed official materials do not state a cap for them.
