Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords remains compelling for its conflicted Jedi story, consequential choices, and memorable crew—but its older RPG systems and presentation show their age. The Switch edition launched without the Restored Content DLC once announced for it; that DLC was canceled in 2023. Nintendo lists the game as supported on Switch 2, with behavior consistent with Nintendo Switch.
What kind of RPG is KOTOR II?
This is a single-player sequel to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, set during a crisis for the Jedi Order and the Republic. You play a Jedi in exile, choose how to respond to the conflict, develop one of three Jedi classes, and travel with a crew whose personal stories and alignments intersect with your decisions. Aspyr describes a party of up to ten characters. Nintendo’s product listing and Aspyr’s game page describe the premise and features.
The story and character writing are the main reasons to play. The game is interested in the consequences of belief, power, and allegiance, giving its Star Wars setting a more uneasy tone than a straightforward heroic adventure. Your choices shape the protagonist and affect how companions relate to you, making party development part of the role-playing rather than just a way to assemble combat skills.
That emphasis comes with a particular kind of play. Combat and character progression draw on classic, tabletop-influenced RPG conventions, with build choices and party management requiring more patience than a contemporary action RPG. If you enjoy planning a character and working through dialogue and quest decisions, those systems can support the story. If you want fast, real-time combat or a streamlined presentation, they may feel cumbersome.

How well does it hold up?
The reviewers’ broad trade-off is clear: strong narrative ambition against aging visuals and mechanics. Nintendo Life’s North American review praises the storytelling and gameplay while judging the sequel weaker overall than the original. Nintendo World Report’s review also highlights the narrative and its distinctive take on Star Wars, while noting the dated visuals and systems that may be less inviting to players unfamiliar with classic RPGs.
Those caveats matter especially on Switch, where the game’s lasting appeal is not a visual overhaul but access to a substantial, choice-driven RPG in handheld, tabletop, or TV mode. Nintendo lists a 17.2 GB file size. The available sources do not establish specific Switch frame rates, resolution, crash frequency, or save behavior, so those should not be treated as verified performance findings.

Did the Restored Content DLC come to Switch?
No. Aspyr and Lucasfilm Games announced The Sith Lords Restored Content DLC in May 2022 as a post-launch addition. Aspyr later confirmed it would not move forward for release; Nintendo Life’s review update dates that confirmation to June 3, 2023. Nintendo World Report also updated its review after the cancellation. The restored content is not an included or forthcoming feature of the Switch edition. Nintendo Life’s updated review and Nintendo World Report’s updated review record the change.
The distinction is important because the launch announcement set a different expectation. In May 2022, Aspyr senior director of Business Development Michael Blair said the game would have “The Sith Lords Restored Content DLC coming post-launch.” That was a description of the original plan, not a feature ultimately delivered. StarWars.com’s launch announcement contains the original statement.

Is there a physical Switch version?
Yes. Nintendo’s current listing identifies its Switch product as digital, but Aspyr’s support FAQ said physical goods were being developed with Limited Run Games. Limited Run Games’ official listing identifies a region-free Switch cartridge edition and a Master Edition. These are separate physical products; neither changes the canceled DLC status. Check the retailer’s current listing for stock and price, which can change over time. Aspyr’s FAQ and Limited Run Games’ product page describe the physical release.
What does Nintendo say about Switch 2 compatibility?
Nintendo currently marks the game “Supported – Game behavior is consistent with Nintendo Switch” on its Switch 2 compatibility information. This is Nintendo’s compatibility classification, not a detailed performance report or a claim that the game has Switch 2 enhancements. Nintendo lists TV, tabletop, and handheld modes for the Switch release. Check Nintendo’s current product listing for its latest compatibility status.

Should you play it on Switch?
Choose this version if the draw is KOTOR II’s character-focused story, moral choices, party relationships, and build customization—and you are comfortable with an RPG whose combat and visuals belong to an earlier era. The canceled restored-content addition is a meaningful omission for anyone expecting the complete expanded package. If a physical copy matters, a Limited Run Games cartridge edition exists, but it should be bought as a format choice, not as a way to get that DLC.
