It contains four standard hidden chests: one in the opening cave, one behind a waterfall, one on the left route between the first two encounters, and one in an orange-mist hallway after the second encounter. This guide uses those landmarks while separating the original Season of the Wish reward rules from the current activity system.
Starcrossed is Destiny 2’s Exotic mission set in the Black Garden and the main source of the Wish-Keeper Exotic Strand bow. The mission has four standard hidden chests. The first is in the opening cave, while the other three are reached through off-route areas protected by Dam’s Gift, Sire’s Obligation, or related Wish-Keeper progression.

Starcrossed’s access, difficulty names, Power recommendations, and reward rules have changed since Season of the Wish. Use the current activity node and its reward preview as the final authority for what is available on your account. Older guides that tell you to launch exclusively from the H.E.L.M. are describing the original seasonal version of the mission.
How to start Starcrossed now
- Open the Director.
- Look for Starcrossed in the current Exotic-mission activity interface. Depending on the current Director layout, available Exotic missions may appear through a destination or the Portal Ops area.
- Select Starcrossed and read the activity screen before launching. Check the displayed difficulty, recommended Power, fireteam limit, available rewards, and any listed modifiers.
- Launch the version shown by the live client rather than relying on an old H.E.L.M. quest walkthrough.
Starcrossed supports a fireteam of up to three players. A Ghost mod that highlights nearby chests is useful, but it does not replace the route instructions below: the hidden chests are deliberately placed away from the critical path.

What Dam’s Gift and Sire’s Obligation do
Starcrossed uses two named access effects to control movement through the Black Garden:
- Dam’s Gift: lets you pass through particular orange-mist hazards and barriers. It is especially important for the waterfall chest and the chest in the hallway after the second encounter.
- Sire’s Obligation: opens or protects other routes and bonus areas later in the mission. It is associated with the progression needed for the third chest in established Starcrossed routes.
When a passage is filled with orange mist or otherwise looks unsafe, do not force your way through immediately. Look for the appropriate buff source nearby, activate the effect, and move through the passage before it expires. The exact placement and progression requirements can vary with the live mission version.
Starcrossed secret chest locations
Chest 1: opening cave, below the large branch
Requirement: None of the later Dam’s Gift or Sire’s Obligation progression is needed.
- Spawn into Starcrossed and follow the opening traversal route through the cave.
- Continue across the large tree branch.
- Before taking the normal route toward the main exit, stop and look down from the branch or nearby path.
- Find the lower ledge and drop onto it.
- Enter the small cave or alcove built into the ledge. The first hidden chest is inside.
This is the easiest chest to collect and the one most likely to be missed by players who stay on the upper branch and move directly toward the exit.
Chest 2: behind the waterfall in the first outdoor area
Requirement: Dam’s Gift.
- Leave the opening cave and enter the first large outdoor area, identifiable by its vegetation, waterfalls, and open traversal space.
- Locate the Dam’s Gift buff well near the entrance-side part of the area.
- Activate Dam’s Gift.
- Move behind the waterfall and enter the orange-mist passage.
- Jump or traverse through the concealed opening into the cave behind the waterfall.
- Collect the second hidden chest inside.
The orange mist is the important landmark. If the passage damages or blocks you, return to the nearby Dam’s Gift source and make sure the effect is active before entering.
In the original progression model, this chest was associated with the first Wish-Keeper intrinsic upgrade. That historical association does not guarantee that the current client awards the same item from the same chest.

Chest 3: the left-hand route between the first and second encounters
Requirement: The relevant Wish-Keeper and buff progression; older routes associate this area with Sire’s Obligation and the Crowned by Dragons progression.

- Continue toward the next section until the route divides.
- Pause at the split instead of following the obvious critical path.
- Take the left-hand route and inspect the off-route area between the first and second encounters.
- Use the required access effect and Wish-Keeper progression to pass the barrier or hazardous section.
- Find and open the third hidden chest in the side area.
This chest is easy to skip because the main route naturally pulls the fireteam toward the second encounter. If the left path is blocked, the likely issue is progression rather than navigation: complete the required Wish-Keeper or buff-related steps in the current version before trying to force the route.
Chest 4: orange-mist hallway after the second encounter
Requirement: Dam’s Gift.
- Complete the second major encounter.
- Enter the dark hallway section that follows.
- Watch for the orange-mist area branching away from the normal route.
- Find the nearby source of Dam’s Gift and activate it.
- Pass through the hazardous or blocked section while the effect is active.
- Follow the side passage to the fourth hidden chest.
This is the deepest of the four standard secret chests. If you run past the orange-mist hallway, you can reach the next part of the mission without ever entering the chest room.
What do Starcrossed’s secret chests give?
Originally, Starcrossed’s four chests were tied to Wish-Keeper intrinsic upgrades and additional Season of the Wish rewards, including Undying weapons that could sometimes provide Deepsight Resonance. Older guides also describe weekly, character-based chest limits and specific reward behavior.
Those details are not permanent. Destiny 2’s activity and Portal systems have changed how older missions present rewards, and the live reward pool or chest rules may differ from the original seasonal implementation. Before farming, open Starcrossed’s current activity screen and inspect its reward preview. Do not assume that an old guide’s weekly limit, weapon pool, Deepsight rule, or guaranteed chest reward still applies.

The commonly documented catalyst refits are:
- Enduring Snare Refit: extends the duration of the trap.
- Multi-Threaded Snare Refit: increases the number of targets that can be suspended.
- Vorpal Weapon Refit: adds Vorpal Weapon.
- Hatchling Refit: enables Threadling generation through the refit.
The original Season of the Wish process involved finding Constellation anomalies, interacting with the relevant light source, shooting the constellation with Wish-Keeper, and then completing Starcrossed on the higher difficulty, historically called Legend. Later completions and mission-system changes may consolidate or alter those steps.
For that reason, treat the four refit names and their effects as the stable part of the guide, but verify the current objective text and reward preview before beginning a dedicated catalyst run. Do not assume that every constellation remains in precisely the old location or that the old difficulty automatically guarantees a particular catalyst in the current client.

The mission is not in the H.E.L.M.
That does not necessarily mean Starcrossed is unavailable. The H.E.L.M. was the original seasonal launch location. Check the current Director’s Exotic-mission interface, including destinations and Portal Ops, then read the live activity screen.

I cannot see the expected difficulty or Power recommendation
Power recommendations and difficulty labels are version-sensitive. Use the values displayed on the activity node rather than a number copied from an older guide. If the activity offers only the options currently shown on your account, those are the relevant options for that run.
The chest is not where the old guide says it is
First verify the landmark: the opening branch and lower alcove, the first outdoor waterfall, the left route after the first encounter, or the orange-mist hallway after the second encounter. Then check whether the passage requires Dam’s Gift, Sire’s Obligation, or additional Wish-Keeper progression. The chest locations described here are the four established standard hidden-chest areas, but a mission revision can change access requirements or rewards.
The chest opened but gave a different reward
Use the current activity reward preview as the authoritative source. Undying weapon drops, Deepsight behavior, weekly limits, intrinsic upgrades, and catalyst delivery were all described differently across Starcrossed’s seasonal and later versions.

Quick Starcrossed chest checklist
