Stardew Valley 1.6.4 was released on April 18, 2024, adding mine layouts, fish frenzies, new customization options and a broad set of balance, quality-of-life and bug-fix changes. A separate hotfix followed on April 19. The notes below distinguish the original patch from that follow-up.
Stardew Valley 1.6.4 release date and scope
ConcernedApe posted the official 1.6.4 patch notes on April 18, 2024. The developer described the release as adding content alongside balance changes, quality-of-life features, translation improvements and bug fixes. The official notes are available in the Stardew Valley 1.6.4 patch notes.

These are historical notes for version 1.6.4, not a statement that it is the latest game version. The next-day hotfix is listed separately below.
What new content did 1.6.4 add?
New mine layouts
After reaching the bottom of the mines, players can encounter 20 alternate mine layouts. A further 20 volcano mine layouts can appear after unlocking the shortcut between the caldera and the volcano entrance. These are randomized layout additions rather than new mine areas.

Fish frenzies and fish tanks
The update added fish frenzies. It also expanded fish tanks to accept eight additional non-fish items, giving players more display options.
Fairies, neighbors and the Raccoon shop
Four new fairy styles were added. Helping the new neighbors grow their family to its maximum now leads to a special cutscene. The Raccoon shop also gained a trade for mystery boxes and golden mystery boxes.
Tree changes
Vinegar can now be poured onto trees to prevent them from ever growing moss. The Shaving enchantment also produces different drops depending on the tree: fern trees yield fiddlehead ferns, mushroom trees yield red mushrooms, and mahogany trees yield hardwood.
Balance and progression changes
- Missed Steam achievements can unlock when a save is loaded.
- A mini-shipping bin became an expensive purchase from Qi’s gem shop.
- Skull Cave treasure chests gained more variety and improvements.
- Life elixirs now restore health only; energy tonics restore energy only.
- Wild seed spots appear less often but yield more seeds.
- Iridium Golems have twice the chance to drop iridium.
- Monsters on the volcano entry level are randomized daily.
- Using a treasure totem indoors no longer works, and descending a mine level grants one second of invulnerability.
- The Raccoon mystery-box reward increased from four to five.
- Farming experience contributes to mastery experience at a 50% rate.
- Fishing quest pools changed, and descending normal mines no longer awards calico rating points.
- Golden mystery boxes have a small chance to contain an auto-petter, while the chance of finding mystery boxes was slightly reduced.
- Mine barrels and coal carts refresh yearly. Mystery-box reward order is randomized per player rather than per save.
Quality-of-life changes and fixes
- After dropping an item, the same player must wait 1.2 seconds before picking it back up.
- Napalm rings no longer damage the farm or slime hutch.
- Ctrl + right-click is an alternate hotkey for dropping an item from the toolbar.
- Special notifications no longer cancel actions such as eating or warping.
- Fish no longer fall back into ponds.
- Crab pots cannot be removed for 750 milliseconds after harvesting.
- The Junimo bundle menu highlights only items that can be placed in the selected bundle.
The patch also included translation and visual improvements, minor optimizations, and fixes involving maps, sprites, menus, sound, chests, machines and other behavior.

Changes for modded players
Modding-related changes include debug commands to change pet types or breeds, intended to help migrate older saves; preservation of save-slot numbering in the filterLoadMenu command; and the combination of removeNpc and killNpc into one command that removes all instances of an NPC.
What did the April 19 hotfix fix?
The official Steam announcement recorded a hotfix on April 19, 2024, the day after the main 1.6.4 notes. It addressed four issues: dropping a big chest into a small chest, the quarry mine level appearing as an alternate layout, a barrier exploit during a transit cutscene, and mine levels 45 and 85 not refreshing at the start of the year.
