It is not an early-game choice, though: its listed requirements are level 60 and Starship Design rank 4. This ranking compares actual autonomous turret modules with a few automated particle weapons that are often grouped with turrets in player searches; those weapons are labeled separately.
How this Starfield auto-turret ranking works
“Auto” can refer either to a weapon module that autonomously aims and fires or to a particle-beam weapon whose name includes “Auto.” Those are not the same thing. This list prioritizes actual turret modules, then includes automated beams where they offer a useful lower-class or progression alternative.

The ordering is an editorial comparison of INARA’s listed base hull and shield damage, fire rate, max power, class and access requirements, plus whether a weapon is a turret or an automated beam. It is not a controlled comparison of combat DPS: accuracy, firing arcs, target behavior, ship layout and sustained performance can change how useful a weapon is in a real build. Treat the listed damage values as database stats, not a guarantee of damage in every encounter.
The 10 best auto turrets and automated weapons
-
Obliterator 250MeV Alpha Turret — best late-game heavy turret
This is the clearest pick for a high-end Class C ship. INARA lists 86 hull damage and 86 shield damage, a 1.50 fire rate and max power 4. It is a genuine autonomous turret, and Game8 also names it its best turret. The tradeoff is access: it is listed at level 60 and requires Starship Design rank 4. INARA lists Akila City among its vendors, but stock can be random and some items are level-restricted. INARA module listing; Game8 turret guide.

PBO-100 Auto Neutron Turret — a strong Class B option
For a ship that cannot yet use Class C weapons, the PBO-100 is a practical turret choice. Its listed stats are 16 hull and 16 shield damage, a 5.00 fire rate and max power 3. That gives it a different balance from the slow-firing Obliterator: less damage per listed hit, but a higher listed rate of fire and lower class access. INARA lists it as Class B. INARA module listing.
-
PBO-300 Auto Alpha Turret — Class C power-conscious alternative
The PBO-300 is a Class C turret with listed damage of 22 to hull and 22 to shields, a 4.00 fire rate and max power 3. Compared with the Obliterator, it uses one less unit of max power and has a higher listed fire rate, but considerably lower per-hit damage. That may suit a build where power allocation matters more than heavy individual hits. INARA module listing.
-
Eradicator 75MeV Auto Neutron Turret — neutron turret candidate
The Eradicator 75MeV is among the database-listed autonomous turret candidates. Its “Auto Neutron Turret” name identifies it as a turret, not merely a manually aimed particle weapon. Compare its listed class, power and access requirements against the PBO models before committing; those constraints matter as much as damage when designing a ship. INARA’s module listing provides the candidate’s module attributes. INARA module listing.
-
Disruptor 3340A Auto Alpha Turret — alpha turret candidate
This is another actual turret module, suited to readers comparing alpha-type automated weapons. The number in its name should not be treated as a damage figure: use its database-listed damage, fire rate, power and eligibility requirements when deciding whether it fits your build. INARA module listing.

Disruptor 3320 Neutron Turret — automated neutron option
The Disruptor 3320 Neutron Turret is a turret candidate rather than an auto-named beam. As with the other mid-list modules, its placement reflects inclusion in the supported candidate pool, not a claim that it beats every other turret in combat. Check its listed class and max power against your ship’s weapon groups and progression. INARA module listing.

Exterminator 95MeV Auto Helion Beam — automated beam, not a turret
The Exterminator 95MeV Auto Helion Beam belongs in a broad “auto weapon” comparison, but it is a beam, not a turret module. That distinction matters if you specifically want a weapon that aims and fires autonomously. Consider it only when an automated particle-beam weapon suits your build and you are not using “turret” literally. INARA module listing.
-
Vanguard Obliterator Autoprojector — best early Class A automated weapon
This is not an actual turret: it is an automated Class A particle weapon. Its listed base stats are 11 hull and 11 shield damage, a 6.66 fire rate and max power 2. INARA says ship vendors sell it after completing the UC Vanguard quest Grunt Work. It is a useful early-progression option when Class C access is far off, but do not compare its faster firing rate with turret performance as if the weapons had identical targeting behavior. INARA Vanguard Obliterator entry.
-
Other Auto particle-beam weapons — consider only as beams
Additional weapons with “Auto” in their names can appear in broad searches for auto turrets. They should not be ranked as turret modules unless their module type is actually a turret. Use the same checks—hull and shield damage, fire rate, max power, class and unlock access—and keep beam weapons in their own category when selecting an autonomous turret build. INARA module listing.

Other lower-class turret modules — prioritize fit over name
A lower-class turret that fits your current ship may be a better practical choice than a late-game weapon you cannot mount. The INARA catalog covers additional turret candidates; compare each module’s listed statistics and level or skill requirements rather than assuming a weapon with “Auto” in its name is an autonomous turret. INARA module listing.
Which turret should you choose for your build?
| Build situation | Recommended choice | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Late-game Class C ship with Starship Design rank 4 | Obliterator 250MeV Alpha Turret | INARA lists 86/86 base damage, 1.50 fire rate and max power 4; access is level 60 and Starship Design rank 4. |
| Class B ship | PBO-100 Auto Neutron Turret | Class B, with listed 16/16 damage, 5.00 fire rate and max power 3. |
| Class C ship where weapon power is tight | PBO-300 Auto Alpha Turret | Class C with max power 3 and listed 22/22 damage at 4.00 fire rate. |
| Early Class A progression after Grunt Work | Vanguard Obliterator Autoprojector | Class A automated particle weapon; listed 11/11 damage, 6.66 fire rate, max power 2. It is not a turret. |
“Damage” here is the database-listed hull and shield value per hit; it does not by itself establish sustained damage output. A faster fire rate may help in practice, but the comparison also depends on accuracy, target access, the weapon’s firing behavior and the ship’s layout. Max power is a build constraint, and weapon group limits can restrict how many weapons you can fit. The figures support comparison, not a universal DPS verdict.

How skills change the choice
Bethesda’s Automated Weapon Systems skill improves turret weapons. At rank 1, it adds 10% automated ship-weapon damage and reduces targeting-mode costs by 20%. Rank 2 raises those effects to 20% damage and 30% cost reduction, and reduces ship damage taken during targeting mode by 20%. Rank 3 raises the damage and cost effects to 30% and 40%, and adds 20% critical chance against targeted subsystems. At rank 4, ship turret weapons recharge 40% faster and deal 20% more damage to targeted subsystems.
Bethesda lists Particle Beam Weapon Systems separately: its ranks improve ship particle-beam damage, reaching a 30% increase at rank 3. Since turret modules and automated particle beams are different weapon types, do not assume that a skill bonus for one category applies to the other.
Why the top spot is not a universal winner
The Obliterator 250MeV Alpha Turret leads this stat-based ranking for a late-game heavy turret, not for every ship or every pilot. Its Class C, level 60 and Starship Design rank 4 requirements put it outside early builds, while the PBO-100 and Vanguard Obliterator serve different progression stages. A turret’s usefulness also depends on where it is mounted and what it can bring to bear; a high listed damage stat cannot compensate if the weapon does not suit the ship’s layout or the encounter.
Use the ranking as a shortlist, then choose by actual eligibility and ship fit. For a strict turret build, favor modules explicitly identified as turrets; include automated beams only if you are comfortable with that distinction.
