There is no verified, current top-ten ranking of individual Starfield ship weapons in the available evidence. The useful answer is to choose by purpose: lasers for shields, ballistics for hulls, missiles for high-impact targeted attacks, and EM weapons when you want to disable a ship and board it. The named models below are candidates, not confirmed winners; their current stats and availability have not been established.
How to choose a ship weapon
“Best” depends on what you want a weapon to do and how it fits your ship. Compare its effect on shields, hull, or systems; how quickly it can fire again; its power draw and fit; and whether it fires automatically or needs your aim. Official launch-era guidance describes the broad weapon roles, but does not establish a current model-by-model ranking.

Quick picks by combat goal
| Combat goal | Weapon type to consider | Why it fits | Named candidate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strip shields | Laser | Lasers are particularly effective against shields. | Reza 300 PHz SX Pulse Laser Turret |
| Damage exposed hull | Ballistic | Ballistics are stronger against hull once shields are down. | KE-49A Autocannon or Vanguard Hellfire Autocannon |
| Flexible damage against shields and hull | Particle beam | Consider this category when you want a broadly useful damage option; exact model comparisons are not verified here. | Exterminator 95MeV Auto Helion Beam or PBO-175 Auto Helion Beam |
| Deliberate, high-impact attack | Missile | Missiles home and deal meaningful damage to both shields and hull, but replenish more slowly. | Atlatl 280C Missile Launcher |
| Disable and board | EM | EM weapons target ship systems rather than simply prioritizing destruction. | Tatsu 501EM Suppressor or Nullifier 1750 Suppressor |
| Automatic fire | Turret | A turret fires independently of the ship’s facing, which is convenient but can be a liability when boarding. | Obliterator 250MeV Alpha Turret |
These candidate names surfaced in a Game8 search-result summary, not a fully accessible current comparison. The result reported an October 16, 2023 update; it does not verify present-day stats, rank, vendor, level requirement, or fit. Treat each as a lead to check in your game, not as a proven best-in-class recommendation: Game8’s Starfield ship-weapon guide.

Ten model candidates to investigate
The following are ten distinct named candidates from that summary. They are grouped by role rather than ranked: the evidence does not support a defensible first-through-tenth order or establish that any one is currently the best.
Missile launcher
- Atlatl 280C Missile Launcher. A candidate for players who want homing attacks against shields and hull and are comfortable with slower replenishment.
Ballistic autocannons
- KE-49A Autocannon. A candidate for hull pressure after shields fall.
- Vanguard Hellfire Autocannon. Another candidate for the same hull-focused role; no verified comparison establishes which is stronger.
Laser turret
- Reza 300 PHz SX Pulse Laser Turret. A candidate for shield pressure with automatic turret fire. Its current stats and fit are not established here.
Particle beams
- Exterminator 95MeV Auto Helion Beam. A particle-beam candidate; current comparative performance is unverified.
- PBO-175 Auto Helion Beam. A second particle-beam candidate, not verified as better or worse than the Exterminator.
EM suppressors
- Tatsu 501EM Suppressor. A candidate when disabling systems and setting up a boarding attempt matters more than destroying the ship.
- Nullifier 1750 Suppressor. Another candidate for the EM role; no current item-level comparison is established.
Turret
- Obliterator 250MeV Alpha Turret. A candidate for automatic fire. As with other turrets, its independent firing behavior matters if you intend to preserve a target for boarding.
The accessible candidate list does not provide a tenth verified distinct model beyond these nine names. Rather than invent one to satisfy the title’s number, use the role matrix to compare other weapons available in your shipbuilder.

Build around three weapon groups and shared power
A ship can equip up to three weapon types, arranged in three weapon groups. Weapons compete for power with engines, shields, and the grav drive, so a weapon’s damage alone does not determine whether it is a good fit. Bethesda’s official overview confirms that ship customization includes weapon and shield systems, but gives no weapon-specific stats: Starfield | Discover Free Lanes.
- Use groups to cover distinct jobs, such as shield pressure, hull damage, and system disabling, rather than assuming one category handles every encounter equally well.
- Check the power demand and the number of weapons the ship can fit before committing to a model. Exact power draw and fitting limits for the named candidates are not established here.
- Balance weapon power against the power you need for engines, shields, and grav drive. The right allocation depends on whether you need mobility, defense, or combat output in a given fight.
- Consider whether automatic fire suits your aim and combat plan. A turret can fire without the ship facing its target; a controllable weapon gives you more direct firing control.
Disable ships without destroying them
If your goal is to board, prioritize disabling the target rather than reducing its hull to zero. Xbox Wire explains that Targeting Control Systems enables target locks and subsystem targeting, and that disabling engines can let you dock and board. EM weapons are another option when you want to disable systems rather than focus only on destruction.

- TELL YOUR STORY - In Starfield the most important story is the one you tell with your character. Start your journey by customizing your appearance and deciding your Background and Traits. Will you be an experienced explorer, a charming diplomat, a stealthy cyber runner, or something else entirely? The choice is yours. Decide who you will be and what you will become.
- EXPLORE OUTER SPACE - Venture through the stars and explore more than 1000 planets. Navigate bustling cities, explore dangerous bases, and traverse wild landscapes. Meet and recruit a memorable cast of characters, join in the adventures of various factions, and embark on quests across the Settled Systems. A new story or experience is always waiting to be discovered.
- CAPTAIN THE SHIP OF YOUR DREAMS - Pilot and command the ship of your dreams. Personalize the look of your ship, modify critical systems including weapons and shields, and assign crew members to provide unique bonuses. In deep space you will engage in high-stakes dogfights, encounter random missions, dock at star stations, and even board and commandeer enemy ships to add to your collection.
- DISCOVER, COLLECT, BUILD - Explore planets and discover the fauna, flora, and resources needed to craft everything from medicine and food to equipment and weapons. Build outposts and hire a crew to passively extract materials and establish cargo links to transfer resources between them. Invest these raw materials into research projects to unlock unique crafting recipes.
- LOCK AND LOAD - Space can be a dangerous place. A refined combat system gives you the tools to deal with any situation. Whether you prefer long-range rifles, laser weapons, or demolitions, each weapon type can be modified to complement your playstyle. Zero G environments add a chaotic spectacle to combat, while boost packs give players freedom to maneuver like never before.
Be cautious with automatic turrets: Bethesda warns that they may keep firing at a disabled ship and destroy it before you can dock. If boarding is the objective, consider disabling those turrets or relying on controllable weapons so you can stop shooting when the target is disabled.
