There is no single best Starfield graphics preset for every PC. The right setup depends on your hardware, output resolution, and frame-rate target. First rule out system and installation problems; then choose an upscaling option your game and GPU support, and adjust based on the image and performance you actually see.
Check the PC before changing graphics settings
Bethesda Support says, “Most issues related to game performance can be attributed to hardware.” Its troubleshooting guidance recommends checking these basics before tuning image quality:
- Confirm the PC meets Starfield’s minimum system requirements.
- Install the game on an SSD rather than a hard disk. Bethesda does not specify an SSD capacity or interface.
- Update the graphics drivers.
- If the PC has more than one GPU, confirm Starfield is assigned to the primary GPU.
- If frame rates or performance are poor, try disabling the Steam Overlay and/or Xbox Game Bar.
Bethesda also suggests closing other applications and lowering graphics quality if poor performance is causing crashes. These are troubleshooting steps, not a guarantee that any one change will resolve every performance problem. Bethesda Support’s Starfield PC performance guidance
Choose an upscaling option your system supports
Upscaling options are not interchangeable across all PCs. Check which choices are available in your game, then judge them against your display resolution, image-quality preference, and target frame rate. Bethesda’s feature guidance confirms availability but does not establish one option as best for every hardware configuration.

AMD FSR 3
Bethesda says FSR 3 can be enabled in Display Settings, under Upscaling options, and advises players to verify system support for the best experience. Availability in that menu does not by itself establish that it will be the best choice for a particular PC. Bethesda’s FSR 3 announcement
NVIDIA DLSS and DLAA
Bethesda lists DLSS Super Resolution, Deep Learning Anti-Aliasing (DLAA), NVIDIA Reflex Low Latency, and DLSS Frame Generation for compatible NVIDIA graphics cards. Which options appear depends on supported hardware and the game version. Bethesda’s support page does not name a universal configuration or frame-rate result. Intel XeSS
Bethesda’s Update 1.9.67 notes say Intel XeSS support was added on PC. The notes do not provide a comparative recommendation against FSR or DLSS for specific GPUs or resolutions. Starfield Update 1.9.67 notes
Set a frame-rate goal, then evaluate the image
Use your intended output resolution and desired frame rate as the starting point rather than copying a preset meant for a different PC. Compare the upscaling choices available to you and keep the option that gives you an acceptable balance of clarity, artifacts, and responsiveness. There is no official Bethesda benchmark here that compares named GPUs, resolutions, and settings, so a specific FPS promise or universal winner is not established.

- Prioritize image quality: favor the option that looks clearest at your output resolution, provided performance remains acceptable to you.
- Prioritize frame rate: test the supported upscaling choices and assess whether their image quality and artifacts are acceptable at your target.
- Notice artifacts: if an option produces distracting visual behavior, try another available option and check the game’s update notes for version-specific fixes.
Check VSync when using DLSS Frame Generation
Bethesda Support says: “While DLSS Frame Generation is active, VSync needs to be toggled OFF to see the benefit.” Its support page also says Bethesda is working to adjust this automatically in a future update. Treat this as Bethesda’s guidance for the game behavior covered by that page, and check your current game version rather than assuming the interaction is unchanged. Bethesda Support’s DLSS guidance

Visual artifacts can be version-specific. Bethesda’s Update 1.9.67 notes, dated February 20, 2024, include a fix for clouds appearing to vibrate when using DLSS Performance mode. If you see that issue, check whether your installed version includes the fix; the notes do not establish that every cloud or image artifact has the same cause.
