A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11If Starfield textures are missing, corrupted-looking, or failing to load on PC, there is no single confirmed cause: Bethesda Support says textures or images can go missing for multiple reasons. Work through its checks in order, starting with a restart and ending with mod removal and a reinstall only if the simpler steps fail.
Start with the low-disruption checks
Restart Starfield and your PC
Close the game and restart the computer, then launch Starfield again. Bethesda lists restarting as the first step for missing textures or images. A restart is a quick check, not a diagnosis or guaranteed fix. Bethesda’s missing-textures guidance does not identify one cause that applies to every player.
Check that your PC meets the minimum requirements
Bethesda lists these minimum PC specifications on its Starfield system requirements page:
- Memory: 16 GB RAM.
- Available storage: 125 GB.
- Storage type: SSD required.
- Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 5700 or NVIDIA GeForce 1070 Ti.
The same page lists 16 GB RAM, 125 GB available storage, and an SSD for the recommended configuration, with an AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT or NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080. These are Bethesda’s listed specifications; meeting the minimum does not establish what caused a particular texture problem or guarantee a specific visual result. The requirements page is in French, and Bethesda does not state a publication or update date there.

Install the game on an SSD
Bethesda recommends installing Starfield on an SSD rather than an HDD in its missing-textures guidance, and its PC requirements say an SSD is required. If the game is currently on a hard drive, move or reinstall it to an SSD using the storage-management options in your storefront. The exact steps depend on whether you use Steam or the Microsoft Xbox App.
If you need to add storage, first check your PC’s supported drive form factor, interface, and installation options. Bethesda’s cited pages do not endorse a particular SSD, and changing drives is not a guaranteed cure for every missing or glitched texture.
Update your graphics driver and verify the game files
Update the video card driver
Install the current driver for your graphics card using its manufacturer’s official driver update method. Bethesda includes updating video card drivers in its missing-textures troubleshooting and repeats the advice in its PC performance troubleshooting. Bethesda does not specify one driver version for this issue.

Verify Starfield’s installed files
Use the file-verification option for the storefront where Starfield is installed. Bethesda’s missing-textures article directs players to verify game files through Steam or the Microsoft Xbox App; the exact menu labels and path can vary by app version. The Bethesda troubleshooting article links to platform-specific instructions.
If you use mods, isolate them before reinstalling
If you have added mods, note which storefront you use and whether the game is modded before making changes. Bethesda’s guidance is to remove mods and reinstall Starfield if the preceding checks have not resolved the missing textures. This is more disruptive than restarting, updating a driver, or verifying files, so use it as a later step rather than assuming a mod is the cause.
Removing mods and reinstalling may affect your setup. Follow the relevant storefront’s uninstall and install process, and consider any mod-specific instructions for safely removing content. Bethesda’s guidance does not say that every modded texture issue has the same cause.

When the textures still do not load
Bethesda’s cited steps do not identify a user-specific cause if the problem persists. Contact Bethesda Support and include details that can help distinguish your setup and symptom:
- Your PC’s processor, graphics card, RAM, and whether Starfield is installed on an SSD or HDD.
- Your storefront: Steam or the Microsoft Xbox App.
- Your graphics driver version and whether the game is modded.
- What the visual issue looks like, where it occurs, and whether it began after a change such as a driver update or mod installation.
- Which troubleshooting steps you have already completed and what happened afterward.
Missing textures or images are not necessarily the same symptom as generally blurry or low-detail rendering. Describe what you see rather than assuming the two have the same cause. Bethesda also suggests disabling overlays and checking that Starfield uses the primary GPU for applicable performance problems in its performance troubleshooting; those are performance checks, not fixes listed on its missing-textures page.
