There is no official ranking of Starfield’s 25 best ships, and the available evidence does not support a reliable, current top-25 list with verified stats and acquisition details. The strongest recommendations depend on what you need—combat, cargo, exploration, or crew space—and whether your Starship License lets you pilot the ship. Here are the ships identified by the available guides, the trade-offs they represent, and how to judge a ship before spending credits or pursuing it.
How to judge a ship before ranking it
A ship’s value is not a single number. Compare its combat capability and class with its cargo, crew capacity, jump range, hull, shields, price, acquisition route, and how early you can realistically use it. A powerful ship that requires a class you cannot pilot—or costs more credits than you can afford—is not your best practical choice yet.

Bethesda’s ship-building guidance describes the broad class trade-off: Class A ships are generally more mobile but have lower firepower; Class B ships are moderate in both; and Class C ships are generally more powerful but less mobile. Your Starship License determines which classes you can pilot. These are broad tendencies, not a substitute for comparing the specific ship’s stats and build.
The order below is editorial, not canonical. It weighs the role described by the cited guides against practical access and progression. Precise current stats, prices, and unlock conditions are not established for these candidates here, so treat them as starting points to verify in your game rather than a complete or definitive ranking.

- Pilot and command the ship of your dreams.
Four ships worth considering
1. Star Eagle — a combat-focused quest reward to investigate
Plarium describes the Star Eagle as a combat-focused option obtained as a Freestar Rangers quest reward. That makes it a potentially attractive route for players who would rather earn a ship through a faction quest than buy one. Confirm the current reward and the ship’s stats in game before planning around it; the cited guide does not establish that its details remain current.
2. Razorleaf — an early-game lead, not a current guarantee
PCGamesN’s 2024 guide identifies the Razorleaf as a strong early-game option. Because that recommendation is older, use it as a lead to check, not proof of its current relative strength. Verify its present acquisition route and compare its stats with ships available at your stage of the game.
3. Narwhal — an all-rounder with a high class and credit barrier
Plarium’s 2025 guide describes the Narwhal as an all-around combat and cargo choice and places it for purchase at Taiyo HQ on Neon. The guide identifies it as Class C and high-cost, so it is a poor immediate target if you lack the required license or funds. Its specific current price and performance should be checked in game; the guide predates Bethesda’s April 2026 Free Lanes update.
Rank #2

4. Abyss Trekker — a combat-oriented candidate to verify
Plarium describes the Abyss Trekker as combat-oriented and associates it with Paradiso; the community-maintained INARA ship roster also lists the ship. Confirm its current vendor location, class, and stats before making a trip or saving for it. The available evidence does not establish a current price or enough comparative data to place it confidently above other combat ships.
Why this is not a verified top 25
Bethesda’s official material explains ship classes and licensing, but does not name a best-ship ranking. INARA provides a community ship roster with role, class, stats, and vendor-location fields that can help with comparisons, but it is not an official ranking. The Plarium guide is dated September 2, 2025, before the April 2026 update. The older PCGamesN Razorleaf recommendation is from 2024. These sources do not establish current stats and unlock routes for 25 ships, so filling out 25 entries would risk presenting guesses as recommendations.
To make a dependable shortlist, check the ship’s current class and license requirement first, then compare the role-relevant stats and acquisition effort in your game. The INARA roster can help locate candidates and vendors; confirm volatile details in game rather than relying on an older guide’s price or numbers.
Rank #3
- TELL YOUR STORY - In Starfield the most important story is the one you tell with your character. Start your journey by customizing your appearance and deciding your Background and Traits. Will you be an experienced explorer, a charming diplomat, a stealthy cyber runner, or something else entirely? The choice is yours. Decide who you will be and what you will become.
- EXPLORE OUTER SPACE - Venture through the stars and explore more than 1000 planets. Navigate bustling cities, explore dangerous bases, and traverse wild landscapes. Meet and recruit a memorable cast of characters, join in the adventures of various factions, and embark on quests across the Settled Systems. A new story or experience is always waiting to be discovered.
- CAPTAIN THE SHIP OF YOUR DREAMS - Pilot and command the ship of your dreams. Personalize the look of your ship, modify critical systems including weapons and shields, and assign crew members to provide unique bonuses. In deep space you will engage in high-stakes dogfights, encounter random missions, dock at star stations, and even board and commandeer enemy ships to add to your collection.
- DISCOVER, COLLECT, BUILD - Explore planets and discover the fauna, flora, and resources needed to craft everything from medicine and food to equipment and weapons. Build outposts and hire a crew to passively extract materials and establish cargo links to transfer resources between them. Invest these raw materials into research projects to unlock unique crafting recipes.
- LOCK AND LOAD - Space can be a dangerous place. A refined combat system gives you the tools to deal with any situation. Whether you prefer long-range rifles, laser weapons, or demolitions, each weapon type can be modified to complement your playstyle. Zero G environments add a chaotic spectacle to combat, while boost packs give players freedom to maneuver like never before.
What changed in 2026
Bethesda announced the Free Lanes update and Terran Armada DLC on April 7, 2026. Its announcement describes changes involving space travel, late-game content and progression, gear, ship customization, and outpost building. It also reported over 1000 Creations available from Bethesda Game Studios and Verified Creators; that figure is Bethesda’s Creations count, not a ship count. Because the update affects systems relevant to ship use and progression, check version-sensitive ship information against the current game. Read Bethesda’s announcement.
Getting Starfield on PS5
For readers who do not already own the game, Bethesda Support confirms a Standard Edition for PS5 in physical and digital formats, available beginning April 7, 2026. Regional availability and retailer stock may differ. Bethesda’s edition information lists the formats.
