What did Stardew Valley 1.6 add?
The update touched several parts of the game rather than focusing on one new feature. Steam’s official launch summary highlights new festivals and an environmental event, hundreds of dialogue lines, a new end-game skill system, crops and crafting items, a farm type, and additional pets.
Meadowlands Farm
Meadowlands is a new farm type with a starting coop and two chickens, according to the official changelog. It offers a distinct opening setup for a new save.

Festivals, events, and changing details
New activities include the Desert Festival, Trout Derby, and SquidFest, alongside a new summer environmental event. The update also adds variation to festival maps and dialogue across repeat visits, so recurring events can feel less identical.
Mastery progression and new items
1.6 adds a mastery system for end-game progression, as well as new crops and crafting options. The changelog names items such as the big chest, dehydrator, mushroom log, bait maker, heavy furnace, and fish smoker. These are examples, not an exhaustive list; the full changelog includes many more additions.
More pet choices
After reaching maximum hearts with the starter pet, players can adopt additional pets. The update also adds winter outfits for NPCs.
Quality-of-life changes
The changelog lists performance improvements and practical adjustments to controls and interactions. For example, NPCs shove chests instead of destroying them, tools can charge while strafing, and a filled chest can be moved with a heavy tool. It also includes numerous UI and control refinements. The changelog does not quantify performance gains, so this should not be read as a guaranteed or measured improvement for every PC.

When did 1.6 reach consoles and mobile?
The PC release was not the all-platform launch. In a post dated September 22, 2024, ConcernedApe set November 4, 2024 as the release date for console and mobile versions, at version 1.6.9. The same post said version 1.6.9 would also come to PC around that time. See the developer’s platform rollout announcement for the later schedule.
