Starfield Outpost Landing Pad Not Working? Troubleshoot by Symptom

A nearby landing, a missing ship, and a ship that cannot fly are different issues. Here is what Bethesda’s guides and Update 1.16.236 do—and do not—confirm.

If your Starfield ship lands near an outpost, vanishes into its landing pad, or cannot fly after shipbuilder changes, those are different problems—and Bethesda has not published one universal fix for them. Start with the symptom you see, then use the relevant checks below. Bethesda’s April 7, 2026 Update 1.16.236 fixes a specific duplicate-ship-model issue, not every landing-pad failure.

First, identify what is going wrong

“Landing pad not working” can describe several different outcomes. Separate the landing-location problem from a ship that is present but unusable:

  • The pad or landing marker is unavailable: You cannot select the outpost as a landing destination.
  • You arrive nearby, but not on the pad: The landing succeeds, but the ship is elsewhere and may require a walk.
  • The ship is missing, buried, or duplicated: The pad appears empty, the ship is visually misplaced, or more than one ship model appears.
  • The ship is present but cannot fly: Shipbuilder changes may have left required parts missing or arranged incorrectly.

Bethesda’s published guidance and patch notes do not establish these as one problem with one cause.

If you land near the outpost instead of on the pad

Bethesda describes an outpost landing pad as a targeted landing spot: it lets you land directly at the outpost rather than potentially arriving nearby and walking farther to your ship. Its guide says pad types have different benefits and restrictions; some also allow ship inventory to be transferred directly to outpost storage. The guide excerpt does not name the types or establish which pad is required for a particular ship, so it is not a basis for a ship-size recommendation. Bethesda’s Outpost Management guide covers the documented pad functions.

When the Starmap lets you choose the outpost itself as a landing location, make sure you select that destination rather than a nearby point. That is ordinary navigation guidance, not a confirmed repair: Bethesda’s material does not say that selecting the location again fixes a failed landing target. No cited official guide provides a guaranteed procedure for making a ship land on the pad when it instead arrives nearby.

If the ship is missing, buried, or duplicated

A community report describes one case in which a ship appeared below the landing-pad floor after the player built a shipbuilder pad and immediately used shipbuilding. The report says that particular issue did not happen when the player landed on the pad after building it. This is one community-reported sequence, not an official diagnosis or a workaround confirmed to work for other players. The Starfield Community Patch issue report gives the details.

If you encounter a similar visual problem, note the sequence that led to it and your platform before changing the outpost or ship. As a precaution, keep a save you can return to before trying changes that may be difficult to undo. These are cautious ways to preserve useful information and progress, not steps Bethesda has confirmed will fix the issue. The available sources do not establish that fast travel, ship editing, recoloring, or rebuilding a pad will resolve it.

Check what Update 1.16.236 actually fixes

Bethesda’s Starfield Update 1.16.236 notes, dated April 7, 2026, describe outpost quality-of-life changes, including shared outpost storage, production-rate information, and more precise placement. They also add an “Always Show Landing Camera” setting for known locations.

The notes specifically resolve an issue where a duplicate ship model could persist on a landing pad after modifying the ship. That is a documented fix for the duplicate-model symptom; it does not claim to fix a ship failing to arrive, a missing pad, or every visually misplaced ship. The notes do not provide a universal troubleshooting sequence for those reports.

If the ship cannot fly after editing

Use the shipbuilder’s flight-error display to check for build problems. Bethesda says red errors mean the ship cannot operate until they are resolved; yellow errors should be addressed but do not prevent flight. The display identifies missing required components and arrangement problems. This check can help when the ship itself is unable to fly, but it does not diagnose why an outpost landing target failed or where the ship appeared. See Bethesda’s Ship Building guide.

What to do if the symptom persists

There is no cited official step-by-step fix for the exact combination of reports described as “outpost landing pad not working or missing.” If the checks above do not match your symptom, preserve a save from before any risky changes, record what happened and the platform you are playing on, and consult Bethesda Support or subsequent official patch notes. Treat community reports as examples to compare against, not proof that the same cause or workaround applies to your game.
