Alkanes is an uncommon inorganic resource, shown in-game as HnCn. The Starfield Wiki resource entry lists Monopropellant as a crafting use and Mixology 1 as a research requirement.

How to gather Alkanes
Find a surface deposit
- Open the system and planet views and select a world listed with Alkanes. Kreet in Narion is one option; Ixyll I, Ixyll II, and Ixyll VI-C are others.
- Scan the planet and choose a landing region with the resource. After landing, use the scanner to look for resource areas and approach a deposit to gather it.
Bethesda’s resource-gathering guidance explains that surface resources can be gathered at visible points and that outposts can extract and store resources.
Set up an outpost for recurring supply
Alkanes is categorized as a gas resource, and the listed outpost tool is a gas extractor. Place an outpost on an Alkanes deposit, then provide the extractor with the required power and storage. This takes more setup than gathering a small amount, but supports ongoing production while the outpost operates.

If you need a small quantity, check in-game general-goods and resource vendors. Game8 names these shops as places to check; none is a guaranteed source because inventories vary.
