How to watch the September 2024 State of Play replay
The live broadcast took place on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, through PlayStation’s official YouTube and Twitch channels. Sony advertised English and Japanese broadcasts and warned co-streamers that copyrighted music could affect saved VODs and clips. Twitch archive availability can change, so Sony’s recap is the most dependable permanent record.

Sony said the show would last more than 30 minutes and include updates from studios worldwide. No PlayStation Plus membership was required to watch the public stream.
What Sony promised before the show
This was a State of Play, not a full PlayStation Showcase. The official scope pointed to trailers, release dates, gameplay updates and selected reveals rather than a complete multi-year first-party roadmap. Its timing, immediately before Tokyo Game Show 2024, also made a broad mix of Japanese, Western, third-party and independent projects plausible. Sony’s wording is documented in its September 23 announcement.

Pre-show expectations: what was plausible, and what was only speculation?
Contemporary previews identified several reasonable possibilities, but none of these items was confirmed by Sony before the broadcast.
Higher-confidence possibilities
- LEGO Horizon Adventures: Announced for 2024 without a final date, making a release announcement a logical expectation.
- Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered: An ESRB listing had circulated, but that listing was a rumor signal rather than official confirmation.
- Until Dawn: The remake was part of the broader fall release conversation.
Lower-confidence possibilities
- Death Stranding 2: On the Beach was possible but speculative.
- Some coverage treated an unverified 4chan list—including alleged appearances by Ghost of Tsushima 2, Resident Evil 9, Kingdom Hearts 4, Dragon Quest 12 and a Final Fantasy IX remake—as a forecast. It was not reliable confirmation. See the contemporary BGR preview and Digital Trends preview for the period’s expectations.
Sony had also revealed the PS5 Pro earlier that month, so viewers reasonably wondered whether the presentation would demonstrate upgraded visuals. That context did not turn the event into a dedicated PS5 Pro showcase.

Sony noted that availability could differ by region, so a trailer or date shown during the broadcast was not a guarantee of identical access everywhere.
What it meant for PS5 Pro buyers
The show added games to Sony’s growing list of PS5 Pro-enhanced titles, while Sony separately published developer explanations in its PS5 Pro coverage. “Enhanced” is not one universal setting: depending on the game, developers may target sharper resolution, steadier frame rates, improved image quality or other visual changes.
Rank #3
- 🚀 CPU: 3.5GHz, 8-core AMD Zen 2
- 🚀 Storage: Custom 825GB SSD
- 🚀 RAM: 16GB GDDR6
- 🚀 GPU: 10.3 teraflop RDNA 2 GPU
That makes the presentation evidence of developer support, not proof that every game shown receives a major upgrade. The value of a PS5 Pro still depends on each title, the display used and whether the buyer prioritizes higher-end image quality over the standard PS5’s lower cost. Owners of a working PS5 did not need another console simply because the event mentioned Pro enhancements.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which hardware made sense for these games?
| Hardware or service | Best fit | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| PlayStation 5 | Players who want the announced PS5 releases, including Ghost of Yōtei, Monster Hunter Wilds and Dragon Age: The Veilguard. | Existing PS5 owners do not need a second console. |
| PlayStation 5 Pro | Players seeking title-specific enhancements and who have a suitable high-end display. | Benefits vary by game; it is a poor fit for budget buyers or users satisfied with standard PS5 performance. |
| PlayStation VR2 | Players interested in Metro Awakening, Hitman World of Assassination or The Midnight Walk. | Requires compatible PlayStation hardware, headset setup and suitable play space. |
| PlayStation Plus | Players who want the current monthly games and catalog rather than buying every title individually. | Membership is not required to watch a State of Play, and availability changes. |
The takeaway from the September 2024 show
This State of Play worked best as a broad release-calendar update rather than a single blockbuster first-party showcase. It delivered a major new Sucker Punch reveal, several firm 2024 and 2025 dates, meaningful PS VR2 support and historical PlayStation Plus news. For anyone revisiting the event now, Sony’s official recap is more useful than the old prediction lists—and any release date or subscription availability should be treated as a record of what was announced in 2024, not an automatically current status.
