No: Steam Animal Fest is not starting today. The headline refers to a 2025 event; on October 8, 2026, Steam’s published calendar lists the Autumn Sale as ending today, with Cooking Fest next. The official schedule gives the sale’s final date but not its exact end time, so a reliable countdown requires checking Steam’s live store timer.
Is Steam Animal Fest starting today?
No. The “starts today” headline belongs to November 10, 2025, when PC Guide reported that Animal Fest was beginning. Steam’s currently published 2026 calendar does not list an Animal Fest among the remaining events. That describes the schedule as published on October 8, 2026; Valve could update it later. PC Guide’s November 10, 2025 article is historical, not a current event notice.
The 2025 article gave a November 10 start of 10 a.m. Pacific, with corresponding times in other cities. Those conversions applied to that past event and should not be used to infer any 2026 Steam sale or fest timing.
When does the Steam Autumn Sale end?
Valve’s official schedule lists the 2026 Autumn Sale for October 1–8. PC Gamer also reports that it ends October 8, but the official calendar gives no precise hour. Since October 8 is the final date, check the Steam store’s live sale timer for the current countdown rather than treating the date as an exact deadline. A countdown can change as the end approaches, and the date alone is not enough to calculate one. Steam’s official event schedule and PC Gamer’s sale report provide the date, not a verified exact end hour.

What Steam event comes next?
After the Autumn Sale, Steam’s published calendar lists these events:
| Event | Dates | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Cooking Fest | October 12–19, 2026 | A themed fest focused on a game category. |
| Steam Next Fest | October 19–26, 2026 | Demos, developer chats, and livestreams, according to Valve’s event description. |
| Steam Scream V | October 26–November 2, 2026 | A themed fest listed on Steam’s calendar. |
These dates are on Valve’s published schedule. Valve’s Steamworks themed-event guidance explains that themed fests spotlight categories, prioritizing discounted games while also allowing free games, upcoming games, and games with demos. A fest listing therefore does not mean every featured game will be on sale.

How a Steam sale differs from a themed fest
Seasonal sales are Steam-wide discount events; themed fests center on a category of games. Valve describes seasonal sales as running four times a year. It also says a game released at least 30 days before a seasonal sale can participate with a discount. That seasonal-sale eligibility rule should not be assumed to apply to every themed fest.
