The new Steam Controller launched on May 4, 2026, according to its Steam Store listing. The listed US price is $99; a report published April 27 put regional launch pricing at £85, $99 and €99. Valve’s original announcement had only promised shipping in early 2026. The full specification list for the 2026 model is not established by the available official product information, so legacy Steam Controller features should not be treated as confirmed for the new device.
When does the new Steam Controller come out?
Valve announced on November 12, 2025 that its Steam Controller, Steam Machine and Steam Frame hardware would begin shipping in early 2026. The later Steam Store listing gives the Steam Controller a release date of May 4, 2026. Valve subsequently said the controller launched that day. These are launch details, not confirmation of current stock.
Valve’s May 2026 post said it planned to replenish stock and opened reservations on May 8 at 10 a.m. Pacific. That announcement describes the situation at the time; check the Steam Store product page for current availability.
How much does the Steam Controller cost?
The Steam Store listing shows a US price of $99.00. Rock Paper Shotgun reported on April 27, 2026 that Valve’s regional launch prices were £85 in the UK, $99 in the US and €99 in the euro area. Prices and stock can change, so the local Steam Store is the best place to confirm what applies now.

What are the Steam Controller (2026) specs?
A complete, verifiable technical specification list for the 2026 controller is not available in the captured official product information. In particular, the new model’s input layout, connection options, included receiver or cable, battery or charging method, battery life, dimensions and weight should not be assumed from the older controller.

Valve describes the Steam Controller, Steam Machine and Steam Frame as products that “all work together” and are optimized for Steam while remaining open platforms. That broad positioning does not establish detailed compatibility requirements or confirm any particular control feature. Consult the current product page for model-specific details before buying.
Is the 2026 Steam Controller different from the 2015 one?
They are distinct products, and the older controller’s published feature list is not evidence of the 2026 model’s specifications. Valve’s legacy listing describes the 2015 Steam Controller as having dual trackpads, HD haptics, an analog stick, dual-stage triggers, gyro and accelerometer sensors, configurable controls, wired or wireless operation, and AA batteries. Those are historical specifications for the 2015 model only.

For perspective on that older product, Valve reported in 2018 that it had sold 1.3 million Steam Controllers to date. The figure is a historical cumulative total, not a sales forecast or demand signal for the 2026 controller.

Valve said in 2024 that controller use had grown from about 5% of Steam sessions in 2018 to as much as 15% in 2024, and that about 42% of controller sessions used Steam Input. These are platform-wide figures covering controller sessions generally, not adoption or performance data for the new Steam Controller. Valve also reported in 2018 that users of the legacy Steam Controller community played nearly twice as many total titles as users of the next-closest device; that comparison was Valve’s own platform analysis at the time, not an independent study or a result for the 2026 model.
