It included discounts on games and a 20% discount on the 256GB LCD Steam Deck. That outcome came after Valve’s published 2025 sale calendar omitted a late-November event, so earlier previews based on that calendar were understandable—but not the final word.
When was Steam’s 2025 Black Friday sale?
Contemporaneous coverage reported that Steam’s Black Friday sale ran until December 1, 2025. PC Gamer described it as Steam’s first-ever Black Friday sale; TechRadar also reported the event was live through December 1. TechRadar described discounts on thousands of games, but that was a qualitative report rather than an audited count.
The timeline explains why the event was not expected from Valve’s initial calendar. Valve’s second-half schedule listed the Autumn Sale for September 29–October 6 and the Winter Sale for December 18–January 5, but did not list a late-November Black Friday event. The omission meant no such event had been announced in that calendar; it did not rule out Valve adding one later.
How the 2025 sale calendar changed
| Sale | 2025 dates | What the dates establish |
|---|---|---|
| Autumn Sale | September 29–October 6 | Valve announced the dates and said the earlier timing was intentional. The sale ended at 10 a.m. PT on October 6. |
| Black Friday sale | Reported through December 1 | PC Gamer and TechRadar reported the event later in the year; it was not in Valve’s initial published second-half calendar. |
| Winter Sale | December 18–January 5 | Valve’s published schedule placed the seasonal sale in this period. |
Valve announced the unusually early Autumn Sale in a September 29 Steam News post, writing: “Yes, we are crazy, and yes we are earlier than usual, but also that’s intentional: Steam Autumn Sale is on now!” The quote referred to the Autumn Sale, not the later Black Friday promotion. For comparison, the independent Steam Dashboard calendar records the 2024 Autumn Sale as November 27–December 4, a much later slot than the 2025 dates.

PC Gamer characterized the Black Friday event as a relatively small affair compared with Steam’s seasonal heavyweights. Its reported length was one week, so it should not be treated as the year’s biggest Steam sale.

Steam Deck discount: a historical hardware deal
The 256GB LCD Steam Deck was also included. PC Gamer and TechRadar reported a 20% discount. PC Gamer listed prices of $319 and £279; TechRadar included US, UK, and Australian examples. Those amounts describe the promotion at the time, not a live offer or a current product price.

There is no supported blanket rule that Black Friday discounts beat Autumn or Winter prices. The 2025 examples show that discounts differed considerably between games, and the event calendar changed after Valve’s initial announcement. Base a decision on the specific game and the price available in your region rather than assuming a particular sale will be better.

- Decide how long you are willing to wait. A discount that meets your personal budget may be more useful than waiting for an uncertain future offer.
- Consider whether the game is already at a price you are comfortable paying, and whether you would rather keep the money for the December Winter Sale.
- Treat sale calendars as announcements, not guarantees that no additional promotion will appear.
For the 2025 timeline specifically, the early Autumn Sale left a longer gap before Winter, while Steam later added the Black Friday event that was absent from the initial published calendar. That is useful historical context, not a reliable prediction of future years’ schedules.
