Steam Deck OLED Restock Updates: 512GB and 1TB Prices, Availability, and What to Expect

The Steam Deck OLED 512GB and 1TB models returned to Valve’s store on May 27, 2026, but at much higher U.S. list prices: $789 and $949. Here’s what changed, how availability works, and whether to buy new or wait for refurbished stock.

The Steam Deck OLED is back at Valve, but not at its old price. The 512GB model now costs $789 and the 1TB version $949 in the U.S.—a substantial increase over their former list prices. Here’s what the restock means, how availability is behaving, and whether buying new or waiting for refurbished stock makes more sense.

The Steam Deck OLED is back at Valve, but not at its old price. Valve announced on May 27, 2026, that the 512GB and 1TB OLED models had returned to its store. The new U.S. list prices are $789 for 512GB and $949 for 1TB—up from $549 and $649, respectively. Valve attributed the increase to higher memory and storage costs, along with broader logistical pressures. [c001] [c002]

That means the headline should be read as “returned at Valve’s current official list price,” not as a return to the former MSRP. Availability is still regional and changeable, so check Valve’s Steam Deck store for the final stock status before ordering.

Are both Steam Deck OLED models in stock?

Valve’s official product and comparison pages list both OLED configurations as current Steam Deck products, and the product page says Steam Deck is shipping now. The two OLED options are the 512GB model and the 1TB model. [c003] [c004]

However, that does not guarantee that both models will be available when you read this. Inventory can change during the day and can differ by region. A contemporaneous report observed another North American sell-through and fluctuating availability after the May return, while a detailed third-party tracker found that new OLED units were generally more consistently available at Valve’s store after late May than they had been during short, sharp restock waves. [c005] [c006]

Availability checked: Valve does not publish a dependable public restock calendar. Treat the official store as the final authority, rather than assuming that a reported restock date or a third-party alert represents guaranteed inventory.

What the 2026 restock actually means

There are three separate developments behind the current coverage:

  1. New OLED inventory returned. Valve formally confirmed the return on May 27, 2026. [c001]
  2. The price changed at the same time. The 512GB model rose from $549 to $789, and the 1TB model rose from $649 to $949. [c001] [c002]
  3. Refurbished stock follows a different pattern. Third-party tracking found refurbished OLED units appearing in batches roughly every three weeks, although the timing depends on returns and is not an official Valve schedule. Refurbished inventory can move faster than new stock. [c005]

So this is not a normal “wait for the next drop at the old price” situation. The models returned, but the previous pricing did not.

Steam Deck OLED 512GB vs. 1TB: which should you buy?

Steam Deck OLED 512GB

The Steam Deck OLED 512GB is the lower-priced way into the OLED generation. It still includes the OLED display, Wi-Fi 6E, a 50Wh battery, a high-speed microSD card slot, a carrying case, and a 45W USB-C power supply. Its internal storage is a 512GB NVMe SSD. [c003] [c004]

Choose it if you are comfortable installing some games on a microSD card, regularly uninstalling finished games, or primarily play smaller indie titles and a limited number of large releases. At $789, it is $160 cheaper than the 1TB model, leaving room in the budget for storage expansion or another accessory.

Steam Deck OLED 1TB

The Steam Deck OLED 1TB costs $949 and doubles the internal storage. It also adds premium anti-glare etched glass and includes a carrying case with a removable liner. Both OLED versions otherwise share the important OLED-generation features, including the 7.4-inch HDR OLED display, refresh rates up to 90Hz, Wi-Fi 6E, and the 50Wh battery. [c003] [c004]

Choose the 1TB model if you want to keep several large games installed, prefer not to manage storage as often, or specifically want the anti-glare etched glass. The 1TB model’s extra $160 buys convenience and a display finish—not a faster processor or a separate performance tier.

Internal storage 512GB NVMe SSD 1TB NVMe SSD
U.S. list price $789 $949
Display 7.4-inch HDR OLED, up to 90Hz 7.4-inch HDR OLED, up to 90Hz

Included power supply 45W USB-C 45W USB-C
Included case Carrying case Carrying case with removable liner

Is the Steam Deck OLED worth buying at the new price?

The answer depends on what you value and whether you can wait. The OLED hardware remains attractive: its screen is larger and more efficient than the original LCD model’s display, it supports up to 90Hz, and the 50Wh battery is rated for approximately three to 12 hours depending on the game and settings. Wi-Fi 6E and the high-speed microSD slot are also useful quality-of-life features. [c003] [c004]

But the 2026 pricing changes the value calculation. At $789, the 512GB model is $240 more expensive than its former list price. At $949, the 1TB model is $300 higher. Buyers who expected the older $549/$649 pricing should not assume that the restock represents a discount or clearance event.

Buy new now if you specifically want an OLED Deck, need one soon, and are comfortable paying Valve’s revised official price. Wait if the price is the main concern, if you already have a working handheld, or if you are willing to monitor refurbished batches. Compare refurbished stock only after checking its condition, warranty, seller, return policy, and exact storage configuration.

How to improve your chances of getting one

  1. Start with Valve’s regional store. Confirm the model, price, delivery estimate, and whether the purchase button is active for your country.
  2. Do not rely on a single alert. Third-party Steam Deck restock alerts and stock trackers can help identify changes, but they are not operated by Valve and may be delayed or region-specific.
  3. Compare new and refurbished inventory. Refurbished OLED units have appeared in batches, reportedly around three-week intervals in some tracking, but there is no guaranteed timetable.
  4. Verify the seller before buying through a marketplace. A marketplace listing is not automatically official Valve inventory. Check seller identity, condition, warranty, return terms, and the final delivered price.
  5. Be cautious with urgency. A short-lived listing does not prove that another official restock is scheduled, and no future Valve restock date has been announced.

Accessories worth considering after the purchase

The OLED Deck already includes a case and a 45W USB-C power supply, so those should not be treated as mandatory add-ons. The most practical extras depend on how you plan to use the handheld.

Storage expansion

A microSD card for Steam Deck is the simplest way to add game storage without opening the device. Valve confirms that the OLED models include a high-speed microSD card slot. Before buying, verify the card’s capacity, speed class, seller, and return policy; do not assume that the largest or cheapest listing is the best choice. [c004]

TV and monitor use

A USB-C dock for Steam Deck can be useful if you want to connect the handheld to a TV or monitor, Ethernet, USB peripherals, or other accessories. Dock specifications vary, so check the ports, display-output support, firmware requirements, power-delivery behavior, and whether a suitable charger is included. [c008] [c009]

Protection and travel

A Steam Deck screen protector is a reasonable protection purchase for a $789–$949 handheld, particularly for frequent travel. A third-party Steam Deck travel case is optional because Valve includes a carrying case, but it can be worthwhile if you need space for a charger, dock, cables, or several microSD cards. [c003] [c009] [c010]

Replacement charging

For a second or replacement power supply, look for a 45W USB-C charger for Steam Deck and verify USB Power Delivery compatibility before ordering. Valve includes a 45W USB-C supply with both OLED models, so a replacement charger is a convenience or contingency purchase rather than a requirement. [c003] [c004]

Internal SSD upgrades

A 2230 NVMe SSD for Steam Deck is relevant to owners considering an internal-storage replacement or upgrade, but it is separate from the restock decision. Valve identifies the OLED models’ internal storage as NVMe; any replacement drive still requires checking the physical format, compatibility, installation procedure, and warranty implications for the specific model. What not to assume about Steam Deck software

Steam Deck runs SteamOS, an Arch-based operating system. Windows-focused utilities such as Outbyte PC Repair or Driver Updater should not be presented as native Steam Deck optimization or repair tools. Outbyte’s listed compatibility covers Windows 11, 10, 8, and 7, not SteamOS. [c011] [c012] [c004]

Those products could be relevant only to a separate Windows gaming PC that someone uses alongside the Deck—for example, a PC used to stream games to it. That is outside the main restock-buying decision and is not a reason to install Windows maintenance software on the Deck itself.

Bottom line: buy now or wait?

The Steam Deck OLED restock is real, but the old prices are not coming back as part of this announcement. Valve’s current U.S. list prices are $789 for 512GB and $949 for 1TB. The 512GB model is the better value if you can use a microSD card; the 1TB model is for buyers who want more built-in storage and anti-glare glass.

  • Wi-Fi 6E

  • Carrying case with removable liner

If you need an OLED Deck immediately, check Valve’s store and buy only after confirming the price and regional stock. If the revised price is too high, waiting for refurbished batches or using independent stock alerts is more sensible than treating every reported restock as a guaranteed bargain. There is currently no official future restock date to plan around.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does the Steam Deck OLED cost after the 2026 restock?

Valve’s current U.S. list prices are $789 for the 512GB OLED and $949 for the 1TB OLED. These replace the former $549 and $649 prices.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When is the next Steam Deck OLED restock?

Valve does not publish a reliable future restock calendar. New OLED stock was generally more stable after late May 2026, while refurbished units appeared in batches, but availability remains regional and can change quickly.

What is the difference between the 512GB and 1TB Steam Deck OLED?

The 1TB model adds internal storage and anti-glare etched glass. It does not represent a separate performance tier; both OLED models share the main display, battery, connectivity, and platform features.

Can you expand Steam Deck OLED storage with a microSD card?

Yes. Both OLED models have a high-speed microSD card slot, making external storage expansion possible. Check capacity, speed, compatibility, seller, and return terms before buying.

The Bottom Line

Valve’s Steam Deck OLED models are back, but at revised prices: $789 for 512GB and $949 for 1TB in the U.S. Buy now only if you want the OLED hardware at those prices; otherwise, monitor refurbished inventory and third-party alerts without expecting a published restock schedule.
