Valve officially restocked the Steam Deck OLED on May 27, 2026, but “back in stock” does not mean both models are continuously available. The 512GB and 1TB versions returned at substantially higher U.S. prices—$789 and $949, respectively—and inventory has since appeared intermittent and region-dependent.

Steam Deck OLED prices after the restock
Valve’s May 27 announcement listed these U.S. prices:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

|---|---|---|---|
| 512GB OLED | $549 | $789 | $240, about 44% |
| 1TB OLED | $649 | $949 | $300, about 46% |
The old prices apply only to the period before May 27, 2026. Valve said the increases reflected rising memory and storage costs along with broader global logistical pressures. Its announcement did not provide a component-by-component cost breakdown or promise that these prices are temporary.

Is the Steam Deck OLED still in stock?
The restock itself is confirmed. Live inventory is a separate question.
Valve’s product page has recently been indexed with “Available now” and “Steam Deck is shipping now,” but search indexing does not establish real-time inventory. Third-party tracking and contemporary reporting recorded both U.S. OLED models as out of stock at points in July, with availability returning and disappearing again. Stock can also differ by country or change while an order is being completed.

To verify availability:
- Open the official Steam Deck purchase page.
- Select the buyer’s country or region.
- Check whether the desired model has an active purchase button rather than a reservation or waitlist option.
- Continue through checkout far enough to confirm shipping availability and the estimated delivery date.
- Recheck the model and price before submitting payment.
If a model sells out, Valve says it may use a reservation queue and invite customers in registration order. Treat a reservation as a place in line, not as immediate shipment.
What changed—and what did not?
The OLED revision remains a quality-of-life upgrade rather than a new performance generation. Both storage tiers use the same broad hardware platform:

Valve claims three to 12 hours of battery life, depending on the game, brightness, frame rate, volume, wireless use, and other settings. The OLED model should not be treated as a device capable of dramatically higher frame rates than the original LCD Deck.
The meaningful improvements are the OLED panel, HDR support, larger screen, higher refresh-rate ceiling, battery characteristics, wireless connectivity, thermals, and lower weight—not a major CPU or GPU leap.

512GB OLED versus 1TB OLED
The 1TB model costs $160 more than the 512GB version at the new U.S. prices. It does not have a faster processor or meaningfully faster graphics performance.
| Choose the 512GB model if… | Choose the 1TB model if… |
|---|---|
| You mainly want the OLED display at the lowest price. | You expect to keep many large games installed. |
| You are comfortable using a microSD card for additional storage. | You want the etched anti-glare glass. |
| You do not need the premium case features. | You value the case with removable liner and exclusive cosmetic extras. |
| You want to limit the unusually large price premium. | You regularly play in bright environments where reflections are distracting. |
Both models share the same display size, resolution, refresh-rate ceiling, APU, memory, battery capacity, and Wi-Fi generation. The 1TB version includes premium anti-glare etched glass, a case with a removable liner, an exclusive startup movie, and an exclusive virtual keyboard theme.
At these prices, the 512GB model is the more rational OLED purchase for most buyers. The 1TB version makes sense when internal storage and reduced reflections are worth $160 to you; it is not the faster option.

Should an LCD Steam Deck owner upgrade?
Upgrade if your priorities are OLED contrast and HDR, the larger 7.4-inch screen, up to 90Hz, improved battery characteristics, Wi-Fi 6E, and a lighter handheld. These are noticeable usability improvements.
Do not upgrade expecting a generational performance increase. An LCD owner who is satisfied with the display and battery life—or who mainly wants higher frame rates—has weaker reasons to spend $789 or $949. The upgrade case was considerably stronger at the former $549 and $649 prices.
LCD availability and pricing have been inconsistent in the available store information. Check Valve’s live regional store page rather than relying on an old article or comparison table.
When waiting or buying used makes more sense
Wait if the new price is the main problem or if Valve offers only a reservation queue. A restock announcement is not evidence that prices will soon return to their former levels, but it is also not a reason to pay an inflated marketplace price immediately.
A used or refurbished OLED can be worthwhile if it is meaningfully cheaper and its condition is verifiable. Inspect or ask for evidence of:

Valve’s official refurbished page is preferable to an unknown marketplace when a suitable unit is available. Prices and stock should be checked directly.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What about alternatives?
A discounted or refurbished LCD Deck is the budget-oriented alternative for buyers who prioritize price and can accept the older 7-inch, 60Hz LCD display.
A more powerful Windows handheld may be a better category for demanding AAA games or buyers who need broad compatibility with PC storefronts and launchers. The trade-offs can include a less console-like interface and different battery behavior. Current prices, stock, warranty coverage, and performance vary too much to name one universal winner without a fresh product-by-product comparison.
If you mostly play near a TV or monitor, an LCD Deck may also be sufficient. If you want to use the OLED Deck docked, Valve sells an official Steam Deck Docking Station, though a compatible USB-C hub may already meet your needs.

The Steam Deck OLED really did return to Valve’s store on May 27, 2026. But the announcement is now a historical confirmation, not proof of live inventory: availability has been intermittent, regional, and capable of changing during checkout.
The new prices also change the recommendation. Buy the 512GB OLED if you specifically want the OLED experience and can confirm immediate shipment. Choose the 1TB version only if its extra storage and anti-glare glass justify the $160 premium. If value matters more than OLED quality, wait, check refurbished stock, or consider a discounted LCD model instead.
