What does Steam Deck Verified mean?
Valve’s Steam Deck Verified is its highest compatibility category for Deck. Valve describes a Verified game as working well out of the box and evaluates four areas:
- Input: Whether the game supports the Deck’s controls, uses suitable button prompts, and lets players navigate without relying on a mouse or touchscreen.
- Display: Whether the game uses a supported resolution and default settings that produce readable text.
- Seamlessness: Whether players can get into the game and use its launcher or other required elements without avoidable friction or warnings.
- System support: Whether the game works with Steam Deck’s system software and, when relevant, Proton and middleware.
SteamOS is Linux-based, and Valve describes Proton as the compatibility layer it ships to support Windows games on SteamOS. Proton compatibility is one part of system support; by itself, it does not guarantee a Verified rating.
Other Steam Deck compatibility categories
- Playable: The game works, but may require manual adjustments.
- Unsupported: The title is currently not functional on Steam Deck.
- Unknown: Valve has not checked the game.
These are compatibility categories, not judgments of a game’s quality.

What does Steam Frame Verified mean?
Valve calls the program Steam Frame Standalone Verified. It covers the experience of running a game directly on Steam Frame, without streaming it from a PC. Valve’s June 4, 2026 Steamworks announcement says the criteria are similar to Steam Deck’s and highlights performance at default graphics settings, clear and legible text and interface elements, and a working default controller configuration. Valve says the high-level criteria apply to both VR and non-VR games.
Valve has not published a complete Frame test checklist in that announcement, so “similar” should not be read as proof that every Deck test or requirement is identical. The labels cover different devices and play experiences.

Does Steam Deck Verified mean a game works on Steam Frame?
No—not in standalone mode. A Deck Verified rating tells you about the game on Steam Deck; it does not substitute for a Steam Frame Standalone Verified rating.
Steam Frame also supports streaming games from a PC. Valve describes the headset as streaming-first while also able to run some games standalone. A streamed game and a game running on the headset itself are different compatibility cases, so a Deck rating does not, on its own, confirm either a Frame standalone rating or a particular streaming experience. See Valve’s Steam Frame overview for the device’s streaming and standalone context.

How the labels compare
| Label | Device and mode | Published criteria emphasized | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|---|
| Steam Deck Verified | Game played on Steam Deck | Input, display, seamlessness, and system support | Whether the game is verified for Steam Frame standalone play |
| Steam Frame Standalone Verified | Game running directly on Steam Frame | Default performance, legible text and UI, and default controller behavior | Whether the streamed experience has the same compatibility status; Valve’s public summary does not provide a complete checklist |
Where to check a game’s current status
Valve says Deck ratings appear on game pages and in the Steam library. Check the current listing or library details for the device and mode you intend to use rather than inferring one platform’s status from another’s. Valve says Deck LCD and OLED models share the same rating for titles it has tested; that policy does not extend a Deck rating to Steam Frame.
Compatibility reviews are ongoing: game releases, updates, and device improvements can affect status. Valve’s March 4, 2022 Deck Verified update characterized compatibility counts as a snapshot in time. Treat a rating as the status shown for that game, not as a permanent guarantee.
