Steam does have an official way to see a cumulative spending figure. Open Steam’s External Funds Used account-data page to view TotalSpend, a summary of external funds recorded as applied to your account.
It is useful as a lifetime-spending snapshot, but it is not automatically the same as your net out-of-pocket cost, your purchase-history total, or the current value of your game library.

How to find Steam’s spending total
- Open the Steam desktop client.
- Select Help from the top menu.
- Choose Steam Support.
- Select My Account.
- Open Data Related to Your Steam Account.
- Choose External Funds Used.
- Sign in again if Steam asks you to authenticate.
- Read the TotalSpend entry.
The menu labels can vary slightly by language, website layout, or future Steam updates. If you cannot find the option, open the official External Funds Used page directly while signed in.

What “TotalSpend” actually means
TotalSpend is Steam’s recorded total of external funds applied to the account. That generally relates to money paid into Steam or used for Steam purchases, such as games, downloadable content, gifts, in-game purchases, and Steam Wallet funding.

“External funds” is important wording. The figure should not automatically be read as an exact record of every cent you have ever paid for anything connected with Steam. Money earned by selling items within Steam is different from money paid into the account from a card, bank account, or other outside payment source. The treatment of particular transactions can also be difficult to reconcile with refunds, taxes, currency conversion, regional pricing, or payment-provider records.
The page may display a currency-denominated value, but the currency and conversion details depend on the account and its transaction history. Do not assume the number will match a bank statement exactly.

Other fields you may see
Depending on the account and Steam’s current presentation, the page may show more than TotalSpend:
- TotalSpend: The overall external-funds figure.
- OldSpend: Historically documented as external funds applied before April 17, 2015, at 18:00 UTC.
- PWSpend: A historically documented approximate U.S.-dollar value associated with Perfect World-linked activity for certain accounts, including some accounts linked to CS:GO or Dota 2.
These definitions come from longstanding Steam account-data documentation discussed in the Steam Community forums. They should be treated as historical field explanations rather than a promise that every account will show every field today. An inapplicable field may be zero, absent, or not useful for your account.

Why the number may be higher than expected
Your mental estimate may include only full-price games, while the account figure can reflect a broader history of external funds. Depending on the transactions recorded on the account, that may include:
- Games and DLC bought during sales.
- In-game purchases.
- Gifts sent to other Steam users.
- Steam Wallet deposits.
- Market-related activity involving external funds.
- Small purchases accumulated over many years.
This does not mean every Steam Market transaction represents new external spending. Funds generated by selling items inside Steam are not interchangeable with money newly paid from outside Steam.

Refunds can also make comparisons complicated. The account-data total and your ultimate net cost may not answer precisely the same question, so use your payment records if you need an accounting figure.

External Funds Used versus Purchase History
Steam’s Purchase History is a separate tool. It is better for investigating individual transactions: what was bought, when it was bought, whether it was a gift or Wallet transaction, and which entries need further checking.

Your library can contain gifts, free-to-play games, promotional licenses, bundle items, or games bought at steep discounts. Conversely, you may have spent heavily on gifts, Wallet funds, or in-game items without owning a library that appears equally expensive. A library-value estimate therefore answers a different question from Steam’s spending page.
If the page is missing or the figure looks wrong
- Open the direct account-data URL in a desktop browser while signed in.
- Return to Help → Steam Support → My Account and look again for Data Related to Your Steam Account.
- Check whether Steam redirected you to a sign-in or authentication page.
- Use Purchase History as the detailed fallback.
- Compare unusual entries with email receipts and your card, bank, or payment-provider records.
A blank, zero, or apparently outdated value does not prove that no purchases occurred. Account-data values may not be presented identically for every account, and community documentation has historically noted that some values may be calculated when needed rather than continuously updated. Treat the displayed total as a useful account snapshot, not as an independently verified financial ledger.
If you suspect unauthorized purchases
Review Purchase History first, then check your email receipts and payment-provider records. Secure the account with Steam Guard and contact Steam Support through the official site if you find an unrecognized charge. Steam’s support guidance specifically recommends checking purchase history when investigating unfamiliar transactions.

The safest way to check this figure is Steam’s own account-data page. Avoid entering your Steam password, authentication codes, or API credentials into an unverified third-party site promising a spending total. Third-party library calculators may estimate game value, but they are not authoritative records of your Steam spending and can create unnecessary security and accuracy risks.
The useful takeaway is that Steam exposes a buried account record for cumulative external funds. Check TotalSpend for the quick answer, then use Purchase History and your payment records when you need to understand or audit the number.
