Its announced US prices are $1,049 for 512GB and $1,349 for 2TB, and Valve set June 29, 2026, as the first planned shipment date. The latest reported queue update, from July 29, said Valve was fulfilling orders daily and expected everyone already reserved to receive a purchase opportunity by year-end; it does not confirm order availability in every region today.
Steam Machine release date and availability
Valve’s schedule moved from a broad 2026 launch window to summer 2026, then to a first planned shipment date of June 29. These were successive schedule announcements, not separate product releases. Valve described the Steam Machine and Steam Frame as “both of which are shipping this summer” in June; launch reporting subsequently gave June 29 as the first planned shipment date. Valve’s hardware announcement introduced the 2026 window, while Tom’s Hardware reported the summer statement and Ars Technica reported the June 29 date.
What the reservation update means
The initial limited-drop process used reservations and invitations rather than unrestricted immediate sales. Valve’s July 29 update, reported by PC Gamer, said it was “fulfilling orders on a daily basis” and that people already in the queue could expect an email offering a chance to purchase by the end of 2026. That is a forecast for people then in the queue—not confirmation that all regional queues have cleared or that a new buyer can order now.
Reservation eligibility and terms can depend on the current program and region. Consult Steam Support’s Limited Drop Program Terms for the applicable conditions, and check the Steam store in your region for current ordering status.

Steam Machine price and configurations
Valve announced these US launch prices in June 2026. They are not a guarantee of the price in another currency, the tax-inclusive checkout total, or a later batch.
| Configuration | Announced US price | Storage and included extras |
|---|---|---|
| 512GB | $1,049 | 512GB NVMe storage |
| 2TB | $1,349 | 2TB NVMe storage; launch reporting says two additional faceplates are included |
| Steam Controller bundle add-on | +$79 reported | Reported bundle add-on; current checkout and regional price not established |
Valve said its original price goal was “no longer viable,” citing component costs secured over the preceding six months, as reported by TechSpot. Earlier targets or rumors should not be treated as the announced prices. Check the store before buying, especially if comparing the cost with a desktop or another living-room PC: include local taxes, storage needs and whether SteamOS compatibility suits your game library.

What Valve’s performance claims do—and do not—promise
Valve describes Steam Machine performance as six times that of Steam Deck. That is Valve’s vendor comparison, not an independent benchmark, and it does not guarantee a particular frame rate in every game. Valve’s Steam Hardware Talk presentation also says every Deck Verified game is Machine Verified, with the Machine Verified baseline set at 30 fps at 1080p. Steam’s Verified program information explains the existing Deck label; Valve’s 2026 hardware presentation is the source for the Machine Verified criteria, as summarized by TechSpot.
Marketing references to 4K/60 should not be read as a promise of native 4K at 60 frames per second in demanding games. Reporting quotes Valve engineer Pierre-Loup Griffais describing 1440p as a “sweet spot” and notes that the 4K messaging includes upscaling. Actual results will depend on the game and its settings.

How to decide whether the Steam Machine fits
Before committing, compare the full local cost and practical trade-offs rather than relying on a headline price or performance slogan:
Quick Recap
- Check current regional availability and the final checkout total, including tax and any bundle.
- Choose 512GB or 2TB based on how many large games you expect to keep installed; microSD offers another expansion route.
- Check compatibility for the games you care about and whether their performance targets suit a 1080p or upscaled 4K living-room setup.
- Decide whether SteamOS and a compact, TV-oriented PC are more valuable to you than the upgrade flexibility of a conventional desktop.
