Steam’s old stats page was replaced by Steam Charts on September 22, 2022. The page is still available, but its charts measure different things: Top Sellers ranks revenue, while Most Played tracks player counts. Neither ranking should be read as a simple measure of copies sold or overall popularity.
What happened to Steam’s stats page?
Valve announced Steam Charts on September 22, 2022, describing the section as a replacement for the old Steam stats page and a new overview of what was popular on the platform. The charts brought together real-time Top Sellers and Most Played lists, weekly Top Sellers, and monthly Top New Releases. The overview also linked to Steam’s Hardware Survey, Download Stats, and Customer Support Stats.

How Steam calculates Top Sellers
Top Sellers is a revenue ranking, not a unit-sales chart. Steamworks documentation says Valve totals spending over the trailing 24 hours and gives extra weight to spending in the latest three hours. The calculation includes base-game purchases, DLC, and microtransactions.

That approach can put a free-to-play or inexpensive game high on the list when players spend on expansions, season passes, or other content. Valve may combine multiple editions of a game; DLC can also appear as its own entry when it sells strongly to existing owners. Steamworks says the storefront lists are generated automatically from player data rather than selected manually by an editorial team.
Why the list may look different by country or account
Top Sellers can show a supported country-specific ranking, with options for other countries or a global view. Individual content preferences and filters may also affect what a customer sees. As a result, two visitors need not see precisely the same list.

When comparing ranks, check the chart’s region and remember that preferences can affect visibility. A position on Top Sellers reflects weighted spending under Steam’s ranking method; Most Played, by contrast, reflects player counts.

Weekly Top Sellers gives a longer revenue view than the real-time list. Valve said its weekly chart included consecutive-week indicators and rank changes, and that visitors could browse historical weeks back to 2005 at launch. This makes it possible to look beyond a short-lived shift in the real-time rankings.
The monthly Top New Releases view answers a different question: which new releases are appearing on the monthly list. It is not interchangeable with either a revenue chart for a particular day or a live player-count ranking.

Choose the chart that matches your question: Top Sellers for weighted revenue, Most Played for current players, or the daily-player view for unique players over the previous 24 hours.

For Top Sellers, check the selected region and any relevant content preferences or filters before comparing what appears.

For longer time horizons, open weekly Top Sellers or monthly Top New Releases rather than treating the real-time list as a historical ranking.
Ranks and player counts change over time, so the live page—not Valve’s 2022 announcement—is the place to check current positions.
