When does the Steam Halloween sale start?
Steamworks lists Steam Scream V for October 26–November 2, 2026, opening at 10:00 a.m. PDT on October 26 and ending at 10:00 a.m. PDT on November 2. The dates and times appear in Steamworks’ Steam Scream V event information.
That is separate from the Steam Autumn Sale, scheduled for October 1–8, 2026. Steamworks distinguishes its four annual, broad seasonal sales from themed events that spotlight a category; Steam Scream V is the latter. The schedule is published on Steamworks’ upcoming events page.
What games qualify for Steam Scream V?
Steamworks says Steam Scream V narrows its focus to horror. Eligible themes can include classic and psychological horror, body horror, jump scares, and supernatural or uncanny stories. A game is not automatically a fit just because it features a monster such as a zombie, vampire, or ghost; its genre or themes still need to align with horror.

There is a specific exception for games about Halloween: the base game itself must be about Halloween, regardless of genre. Halloween-themed downloadable content or a limited-time in-game event alone does not meet that condition. These criteria are described in the Steamworks event documentation.
Will every featured game be discounted?
No. Steamworks says the event can include sections for discounted titles, unreleased games in Coming Soon mode, games with demos, and more. That means visitors may see upcoming releases and demos as well as deals; it does not say that every featured game will have a discount.
The official materials reviewed do not publish a total number of participating games or discounted titles. In particular, they do not substantiate the claim that thousands of games will be discounted. The eventual selection and prices can only be assessed once the event catalog is available.

What to check before shopping
- Check that a game’s discount is actually shown on its store page; appearing in an event section does not necessarily mean it is on sale.
- For a game that seems eligible only because it features Halloween content, distinguish the base game from an add-on or temporary event.
- Look at the event catalog after October 26 for the actual participating titles, demos, and Coming Soon listings rather than relying on an unverified title count.
