Steam’s official material describes an Adults Only content filter and a separate age-verification process for users in the United Kingdom. It does not confirm that Steam has newly launched a dedicated “18+ adult games” section. The distinction matters: a preference filter changes which games appear to you; UK age assurance verifies eligibility to access certain mature-game pages.
Has Steam added a new 18+ adult games section?
Valve’s cited announcements do not confirm a newly launched 18+ section, its launch date, or where such a section would be available. The documented feature is an Adults Only filter within Steam’s content preferences. Valve described that filter in a 2018 store update, so it establishes the feature’s design—not a new launch in 2026. See Valve’s 2018 announcement about mature-content preferences.
“Adults Only” also should not be treated as a synonym for every mature-content setting or as a legal age rating. Valve’s 2018 announcement distinguished a general Mature Content filter from an Adults Only filter for games featuring explicit sexual content.
How the Steam content filters work
The filters are content preferences: they help determine which games are shown to a customer. They are not, by themselves, proof of age or a universal age gate. Valve said developers must describe violent or sexual content so customers can use that information when deciding what they want to see.

Game developers provide those disclosures through Steamworks’ Content Survey. Valve says the information helps determine how a game appears in relation to each customer’s preferences. Its survey instructions also tell developers to disclose adult content present in uploaded game builds, including content that is not accessible or presented in the product. Disclosure does not override Steam’s rules
Completing the survey is not permission to publish prohibited material. Valve states that products must follow Steam’s content rules whether or not content is disclosed in the survey.
How UK age assurance differs from a content filter
Steam Support documents a separate age-assurance process for users in the United Kingdom. To access mature-game store pages and their associated community hubs, a UK user must be logged into an active Steam account, opt in through account settings, and complete age verification. Steam describes this process on its Age Assurance under the UK Online Safety Act support page.
This is specifically the process Steam documents for UK users. The cited page does not establish that the same verification requirement applies in every country, and its available text does not specify a publication or effective date.
